Taking a chance on Karabak.
Was 2nd last year, and alhough was receiving 2lb from Zaynar, the stable was never firing and he still managed to run well, notablye behind BB in the Long Walk.

i know it's a huge step up....but that nicholls horse looks a bit special to me

Alan King will launch Karabak and Katchit at last year's winner Zaynar in Saturday's Coral Ascot Hurdle.
Karabak will also be reappearing in the race for the second season running.
The seven-year-old finished six lengths behind Nicky Henderson's grey in 2009 but meets him on 6lb better terms this weekend.
Taking into account that King's string were out of sorts for almost the whole of last term, many will believe Karabak holds strong claims of turning the tables.
The Barbury Castle handler will also run former champion hurdler Katchit, who reappeared over a trip short of his best at Kempton and will strip much fitter this weekend.
"I think both are going to run," said King.
"I've had a chat with Frank Berry (owner JP McManus' racing manager) and we are quite happy to let Karabak take his chance.
"He's not penalised this year and he doesn't have much ground to make up on the best stayers.
"They seem in good form. They both worked this morning and they'll have a school tomorrow and the plan is for both to run on Saturday.
"It's a big relief that the horses are running so well at the moment."
Robin Dickin would like to see plenty of rain for Restless Harry to make the final cut.
"He's likely to go, but I've not made my final decision yet," said the Stratford trainer.
"I was worried about it being a dry week and the ground being good. It can get quick up the straight at Ascot.
"I wouldn't want to risk him on that, he's better on softer ground. It isn't essential, but the softer the ground the better he is.
"Every drop of rain that falls will be to his advantage. There's plenty forecast so it's fingers crossed."

In the Weekender he says Karabak not sure to run as there is an option at Newbury following weekend. Also says he is in good order and he's happy with him.

Would be interested in Katchit as an each way if he went out to 20s, ran a blinder on a sharp track against a course record breaking front runner. Reckon Silviaco Conti will run at Haydock, should be easy money for him up there

If you would have told me three weeks ago that people would be talking in Champion Hurdle terms about Silviniaco Conti, I would have laughed at you.
But after wins at Bangor and Chepstow within a fortnight, we clearly have a very smart hurdler on our hands; in fact, he is now officially rated 153, which probably makes him the highest rated novice hurdler we have had here for a season or two.
The original plan was to send him chasing after Chepstow as he loses his novice status over hurdles on November 1, but that has all changed after his 10 length defeat of Captain Chris over 2m4f there. He stays hurdling.
But hold fire if you are thinking of backing him for the Champion - I'm told that some Betfair punters have backed him as low as 42.0 for the race - as I see him more of a 2m4f horse at this stage, as I don't think he will have the pace in the top company over 2m.
But it is equally fair to say he has surprised me greatly, so I certainly wouldn't rule out anything at this stage.
Before Bangor, we didn't know what we had got. He had won two hurdles in the French provinces, but he certainly wasn't working the house down before his debut for me.
But that may not be too surprising. He is by Dom Alco, the sire of Neptune Collonges, and his progeny don't seem to be morning glories but do it on the racetrack. In fact, Neptune Collonges is the same.
We work over 5f here, and it is often the fliers at home that disappoint.
But this one hasn't disappointed on the track and, Christ, did he win at Chepstow - although when they do win like that it is always in the back of my mind that it is too good to be true.
By the same token, it is little wonder that Timeform, who rate him 155p, say he "looks set for the highest stage" and is "a top prospect, be it as a hurdler or novice chaser."
Chasing will be his game next season, but the next time you see him at the track will be at Ascot on November 20 over 2m4f.
That will tell us where we head for the rest of the campaign. I suspect it will be over Aintree over 2m4f at the end of the season, but we'll see.

wouldnt have katchit if he onlyopposition he had to fight off was me. i think hes regressive for some reason and i think 16/1 is skinny even if u fancy him. class horse of the field is zaynar me thinks and should bolt up.

I thought that Zaynar had a terrific campaign last season, given his immaturity, not dissimilar to the campaigns of Punjabi or Binocular at the same age. There is no reason to think that, like them, he isn't capable of some further improvement and this trip looks ideal. Hard to oppose, imv.

The only time that Won In The Dark has been stepped up in trip, he ran 4th in the aintree Hurdle just a shhd behind Zaynar at level weights whilst on saturday he will be receiving 4lbs. If the ground is not riding too soft then this horse is a knocking ew bet imo. I know he is a bit inconsistent but he is a grade 1 winner and i believe this type of trip could bring about the small improvement he would need to take this race.

Generally speaking he's a straightforward ride and of course jumps well. I’d say 2m 3f around Ascot is pretty near perfect for him despite getting beaten over two and a half at Aintree in April. You’ve got to remember he went into that after a tough race in the Champion Hurdle and he was only a five-year-old.
I’d say that as far as tracks go, Aintree would bring out the worst in him and Ascot the best. Having said that, Silviniaco Conti could be anything and his form was given a big boost by Frascati Park at Ascot yesterday, while Ashkazar and Restless Harry are bound to have come on for their first runs of the season. But they will all need to be at the top of their game to get the better of Zaynar.

The winner was very impressive and can improve again. Restless Harry ran OK over a trip way short of what he wants. Karabak always looks good until the crunch comes but seems a weak finisher. Zaynar, like most Triumph winners, is going the wrong way fast. Woolcombe Folly impressed me as much as any other horse today. It will be interesting to see his time rating in due course.
I dont think giving Zaynar a champion hurdle campaign last season has helped tbh. He bever looked like a CH horse at any stage.
