I don't want to give the impression that I think he is any worse than other trainers but it irritates me when people are forever singing his praises about how straight he is with people and the racing public.
He has done this far too many times to be a coincidence but just one example was today with Tchico Pollas (spellcheck) Logically you would have sat down and thought that in the racing callander this was going to be the race they really wanted to target. Interviewed before the race he was very no committal. The horse was fit, it was a hard race blah blah blah. His demeanour whilst not negative could have dissuaded you if you were daft enough to listen. After the race he takes a different stand point. This was his Gold Cup etc etc.
I think he gives mentions to his horses in relation the owner. Some owners horses have always been bigged up while others not. As a rule of thumb he keeps pretty quiet or plays it down when he wants one to win badly. You need to worry most when on one he has bigged up of his lesser lights imo. Great for the game he is the best trainer since Dickinson imo and has his own standards which are v good and v high ... real credit to NH.

one impression i got (be it wrong or right on my part)from his comments regarding kauto today was that clive smith wants to target the hennessy but nicholls himself isn't as keen.

Nicholls is a bit of an egomaniac but seems to offer honest opinions about his horses. His lack of support for Harry Findlay was a bit selfish. Overall he has enhanced the racing experience and treated punters with respect .I wish him well in a very difficult job.

have to be honest,i have never really liked the bloke. No doubt he can do his job well, but as soon as he opens his gob,i take no notice.Mind you he aint the only trainer i take no notice of.

If you listened to 5 trainers all telling you their horses would win, what would you do? Slag off the 4 that got beat no doubt. They can't win what ever they say. The best option is to refuse an interview before a race but then they get slagged off again for being rude/arrogant etc.

But TCHICO POLOS is our main hope in the race, even though he is 5lb out of the handicap. He has been aimed at this race ever since he came in, and has a lot going for him. He is reasonably handicapped, has a great racing weight, likes the track, goes well when fresh and is fit. I fear Somersby most of the opposition but I think he could take some catching forcing the pace over 2m here, as he stays further.
from the blog ...clear enough imo

That's the way i see it CV. His articles are top of the pile as far as trainer/punter interaction goes. Ruby Walsh is the same when he can be as well, even though they owe us absolutely nothing. If we're talking about the misleaders and people who tell us nothing we could be here all day talking about most trainers apart from Nichols.

Nowt wrong with reading his column if one wants to,but like its been said he aint a tipping line.So when it comes to betting,i try not to go on a trainers say so.

i dont hear any 1 praising everyone wrongly slagg him . hes a nice guy who gives honest opinions . certainly str8er than henderson and other mobs and has unbelievable firepower. some of the horses that are not even being mentioned are just utter class but there forgotten because hes got endless class horses. so many top horses back from injury this season

I love Ruby, and he was so bullish about Quevega being his nap of the Cheltenham meeting in his piece in the Irish Star on Champion Hurdle day this year. He was riding Big Bucks, Master Minded and Kauto Star at the festival, yet Quevega was his nap. I was already backing her but he (and Sizing Europe's win) made me put an extra chunk on.

Nicholls book shows how much he wanted to get into it you can tell he lives and breathes it probably the reason he has been so successful, he is my fav jumps trainer after Hen Knight seems a good fair bloke.

Nicholls can't win either way. He's slagged if he says nothing, he's slagged if he's open about his horses.
Personally, I like him. In fact, I admire people who offer their opinions and don't mind being wrong now and again.

He's one of my favorite trainers from either discipline. National Hunt is more in touch with us mere peasants who don't live in private estates with acres of land. Look at all the open nights for Cheltenham where they all gather in pubs and talk about their runners and all the rest of it, that's proper interaction.
Look at 'our' trainers in America, they can't get enough of the press and all the attention, yet over here they hide from the camera as if they will catch the black death by being interviewed. What is about these trainers who care more about what the Americans think than what we do ?...two faced twats.
