Looks like being a good race this year with Albertas Run being the likely top weight. Could force a few out of the limited handicap Confused

Tartak will also presumably run?
Report Cheeeky pieces • October 18, 2010 3:11 PM BST
Albertas is going to be very hard to beat even though he is set to carry top weight.  He  has a decent record fresh and never been out the 3 around Aintree.  Tartak will have a lovely racing weight around 10-9 but his performance in this race last year was poor to say the least. Still only 7 and does have time on his side.  Cant see Monets winning from a 6lb higher mark than last year.

Just back Monet's Garden again Love
Report grade 1 • October 18, 2010 3:39 PM BST
Henderson has only one entry in Aintree and has card pretty much covered at Chepstow so I'd say Geraghty will not be available for Monet's Garden. Pity - they got on well .
Report bigben • October 18, 2010 4:17 PM BST
A very poor renewel imoSad

As great as Monet's garden is when fresh, can't see him reversing the form with Alberta's run. His two runs at the festival and Aintree have persuaded me to think he is set for big things this year. Hard to see him getting beaten.

Having backed Silmi when he won at Market Rasen, I'm confident  there is more to come from him.  Given that he has had a few runs this season, and therefore is race fit I think he could be an interesting prospect in the race, should he run. But Alberta's run is the one for me!

Tartak well in here on aprils run i know he disappointed last year  prepared to give him one more chance

Tartak looks the handicap pick but Tom george is useless at getting them ready for their first run Cry

Geraghty on Poquelin. Monets not running?

Poquelin at Aintree 3 UR 7 UR .
Report sintonian • October 20, 2010 4:44 PM BST
Tartak put his best jumping display of last season in in the Grand Annual. He set the pace before his mark told in the end and just got done for a place. IF they adopt the same tactics and be bold from the front he should go close .. imo

No idea what the betting is ?

TOM GEORGE believes that Tartak has an "outstanding chance at the weights," for Saturday's Totescoop6 Old Roan Chase at Aintree on Saturday.

Old Roan card
The seven-year-old finished last of eight in the race last year, beaten a total of 57 lengths off 11st 5lb. However this year he isset to compete off 10st 9lb, and meets Albertas Run 15lb better off after finishing fourth off level weights in the John Smith's Melling Chase on his last start.

George said:  "The plan is to run Tartak, as two-and-a-half-miles around Aintree seems to suit him. He has an outstanding chance at the weights but if he comes out as ring rusty as he was when last of eight in the race last year, he won't win anything.

"He was very stuffy to begin with last season, so we took that into account this year and have tried to get him so that he's firing earlier. We have done plenty with him so, while there are no guarantees with horses, hopefully he will go there sharper. My horses do tend to improve for a run though."

After Saturday's race, the Totesport.com Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon could be next for Tartak.

"He was unlucky not to win the Peterborough Chase last season when he slipped three from home and finished second to Deep Purple," said George.

"After Aintree, the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon would again be very high on the list. We might fit something in between, but now we know what his optimum is, we might as well stick to that with him."

I would back this horse if I knew they would adopt the same tactics ..

Monet's Garden won this by running from the front.
Report sintonian • October 20, 2010 4:50 PM BST
Agree with the fitness reservations .. trainer is a little ambiguous imvho ..

he is either fit or not .. hardly a poor race, is it ?
Report IC superstar • October 20, 2010 6:30 PM BST
just watched back last seasons Melling Chase and was impressed by Tartak's jumping, battled on gamely at the finish, but am inclined to agree with sintonian in that he won't be fully fit for this one.

Anyone willing to give silmi an e/w chance? Has progressed nicely this summer, jumping and travelling well to win at Market Rasen last time. Pretty much guaranteed that he'll be race fit, unlike a number of the runners entered in the old roan chase.  He'll be carrying a feather weight over a shorter trip, which i think will not inconvenience him, and who's to say that he won't improve again? I'd be interested to hear other peoples thoughts on this outsider
Report dgkelly84 • October 20, 2010 7:03 PM BST
Silmi is not running, will ruin his hcap mark being there or thereabouts and is running at Ascot following week.
Report dgkelly84 • October 20, 2010 7:04 PM BST
The six-year-old, winner of a valuable handicap chase at Market Rasen last month, is almost certain to be a long way out of the handicap at Aintree. He has only been allotted 9st 1lb while the minimum weight to be carried is 10st 4lb.

"I don't think he's going to run and will go to Ascot instead the following weekend," said the Devon handler.

"He'd have been way out of the handicap at Aintree. We could think of trying to get some place money if there aren't many runners, but he could be in the handicap proper at Ascot and actually have a chance.

I think heavy rain is forecast, Albertas Run wont win with soft in the going.

thanks for that  dg

Angel, this could be a penalty kick for AR.

MG a non runner? - Geraghty not up
Poquelin course form.
I'msingingtheblues trip.
Tartak fitness?
Master Medic needs to step up.
Rest are very much wrong at the weights.

Screaming a no bet race unfortunately.
Report sintonian • October 21, 2010 9:19 AM BST
Im not saying Tartak wont be fit here .. im just saying the trainer is ambiguous. Like I said, this is a good race, he should really be fit for it,imo.
Report twonky • October 23, 2010 12:53 PM BST
Cant see why Monet's Garden wont win this. goes well fresh, loves the course, acts on the ground and gets further.
Poquelin has a dreadful record round here
Tartak wil be taken on for the lead and his fto efforts leave a lot to be desired.
Albertas, is the class horse in the the race, but ground and fto are a worry
Imsingingtheblues has got ground doubts and never won a chase above class2
Watchmyback has not won a chase above class2.

twonky, Albertas Run record fto reads 11141

ok the 4 wasn't a good run, but he's a better horse since then imo
Report flyingbolt • October 23, 2010 1:25 PM BST
twonky,Tartak hasn't attempted to make the running in any of his last 10 starts. He also won fto 2 seasons ago.

Monet's Garden for me....just loves this place, and should prove hard to peg back with his exuberant running style.
Report sintonian • October 23, 2010 3:16 PM BST
I thought Tartak run from the front int he Grand Annual .. he was certainly prominent anyway.
Report JOCI Club • October 23, 2010 3:31 PM BST
Marvelous - that's what jumps racing is all about! Laugh
Report sintonian • October 23, 2010 3:37 PM BST
wd joci.

they should adopt front running tactics for tartak .. his better effort last season in terms of jumping was when he was more prominent.
Report Brooksielad • October 23, 2010 3:38 PM BST
Really happy to see monet's win it again. Thought Imsingingtheblues was running a big race until he missed the fence, Albertas not fit Tartak not fit. Pouqulin not good enough for monets :)
Report JOCI Club • October 23, 2010 3:49 PM BST
Yes, Tartak didn't convince with his jumping again. Looks like he has a decent engine though, but I rarely see him put in a blemish free run.
Report sintonian • October 23, 2010 3:51 PM BST
Absolutley.

the closest he got to blemish free was in the grand annual .. a fast run 2 miles could be up his street

I was shouting him on - well done JC - though in the past three seasons I've not had a bet in any race MG runs in.  I thought he was superstar in the making in his earlier days and lost quite a bit on him in Kauto's first King George (2006).  He dropped away most tamely that day and the trainer reported he had not enjoyed being away from home on such a long trip south.  Despite this claim he ran at Ascot next time and I decided to stick with Richards' initial analysis and leave him alone.  He won.

Next race was at Cheltenham and I assumed from the Ascot win that Richards had got it wrong about the horse not liking a trip south so I had my max on again - not in the first three (7/4 fav).  I limped away licking my wounds and decided to give him a miss next time - won at 4/1 easily beating his Cheltenham conqueror Taranis.

We all get horses like that in our punting lives and MG has been mine, big time.  But I don't mind cheering him home in races where I haven't had a bet and it was brilliant to see him battle on today under a very fine ride from Costello.
Report JOCI Club • October 23, 2010 8:05 PM BST
Yes, at one point, it looked like Poquelin might be coming to take him, but MG winged the last, and settled it relatively quickly thereafter. Life in the old dog yet!
