I think Nathaniel is worth a early bet for the 2011 Derby. He finished a 1/2l 2nd to Frankel first time out (Genius Beast 5l further back) and then bumped into another promising Cecil colt in Picture Editor (Genius Beast only 1 1/4l behind this time).
There is reason to believe that Nathaniel's debut was the better run. He also seemed to 'enjoy' the soft ground that day. I don't think we'll see the best of this colt until he's stepped up to 1m4f as he's bred to stay well.
He has an entry in the Racing Post Mile at the end of October. Surely he'll have a live chance on decent ground there.
He's available at 50-1 for the Derby atm. He's a guaranteed stayer that will surely have the Derby as his sole long term aim.
