GEORGEBERNARDSHAW Competed in some tough races over the past two years and drop back into handicaps here sure to help. Remains on a long losing run however and has opponents in form to contend with in this.
DAMIKA Struggled in fiercely competitive handicaps since landing Great St Wilfrid three starts ago; this should suit better. His form with ease in the ground is impressive and no reason another bold show isn't on the cards; just 3lbs higher than last win.
BRAE HILL Seems to enjoy Chester; so straight track here might not be his cup of tea. However, lost only by a nose off this mark three starts back and drop back to 6f shouldn't be a problem for one with plenty of speed. Potential to go well.
HAJOUM Battled to two neck wins of late before coming unstuck in Ayr Bronze Cup last week. This obviously easier but chance handicapper just has hold of him at present. Others better treated.
SONNY RED Tricky to predict and often disappoints but came back to somewhere near his best on latest run in Ayr Bronze Cup. Up 5lbs for his 2nd there; this less of a test and he should enjoy the easy underfoot conditions. One to watch.
INVINCIBLE FORCE Sure to enjoy the rain that has been falling of late and was running well before something clearly amiss last time. Returns now after 104 day break; so needs to hit the ground running to land something like this.
SUNRAIDER Destroyed a field of 3yos here back in June on similar ground. Is now just 4lbs higher than that after four lacklustre efforts since against his elders and needs to prove he can cut the mustard once more. Big chance if cheekpieces revive him.
SECRET WITNESS One of the unluckiest sprinters around at the moment. String of efforts just being touched off and repeat of any of those puts him bang in here. Only attempt on ground this soft was a flop though; so that a major worry.
HORSERADISH Will love the ground. Kept off the track all Summer in anticipation of easier conditions now. Won comeback race last week and sure to come on bundles. Interesting he comes here rather than to Ascot for bigger prize and the one to beat.
FULLANDBY Likely to pop up in one of these soon after dropping to a mark of 88 and his 4th to Poet's Place here three starts back puts him bang in contention. Tricky customer to predict nowadays though and big risk putting faith in him to produce.
WAVEBAND Form when stepped up to this sort of company hasn't been great of late and that likely to be the case once more. Fair 2nd in fillies' event latest but has been running over various distances and looks like stable still working her out.
WE HAVE A DREAM Is on a tough mark at present but has remained competitive none the less. The faster downhill tracks seem to suit him more and will need to step up a notch to land sprint of this nature.
VALERY BORZOV Dropped to 12lbs below the mark he was on when blitzing a field at York last May and has an excellent course record here. Caught the eye two starts ago when flying home late; ground in his favour and major chance for Fahey/Hanagan.
FLYING STATESMAN Should strip fitter for his belated course reappearance but now has it all to prove in a hot handicap such as this. Looks the stable third string and likely other days beckon for him.
SUMMERINTHECITY Likely this trip and ground combination will prove to be his ideal and still lightly raced to remain of interest. Disappointing last two starts but looked exciting before that and unwise to rule out for shrewd stable.
EVERYMANFORHIMSELF Bounced back to form really well last week behind Cheveton and is on a mark way below his best form. Has never been that comfortable going through this type of ground though and likely it will suit others better.
GINGER TED Has been enjoying a rich vein of form when getting these conditions of late. Takes the step up in grade now to compete with tougher customers and will need to improve again to take a hand in the finish; not impossible though.
SUMMARY
A race that revolves around the potential improver in Horesradish; and it’s he who appeals most of all. It was only the quick ground that put pay to his chances of now having five wins on the spin to his name when third at Newmarket earlier in the season. He has been kept fresh for the Autumn and the easier ground, which he gets today. A solid comeback win last week should set him up for this and every chance he is a shade better than his current mark. Of the remainder, Valery Borzov has to rate as a danger. He caught the eye at York when coming from the back behind Hitchens earlier in the month and the ground is now in his favour. He has dropped to a mark he simply must exploit at some point and is one to keep on the right side of under these conditions. Finally, Damika seems way over priced given he has improved a bundle this year and remains just 3lb above his Great St Wilfrid win. He has raced three times on good to soft or worse this term showing form figures of 231 and is a course and distance winner.
Great stuff as always VK (same goes for the 3.45). I have told our former colleagues at the purple place (where many are seriously keen on Valery Borzov) to come over and have a good read!
Good luck

Massively keen on Valery Borzov here so i'll wish you luck with him but not so much with the others
