The race in question was Saturday's Listowel Racs Supporters Club Slan Abhaile Race, the final race of Listowel's seven day meeting, in which the trainers Pittoni was a fast-finishing fourth.

A Grade 1 winner last year as a juvenile, Pittoni was uneasy in the market before the race and the horse has been banned for 42 days, while jockey Derek Fox has received a seven-day suspension.

Pittoni finished strongly to take fourth in the race which was won by seven lengths by Cloone Rocket.

He's as appaling as the prize money on offer at Uttoxeter.

Surely the jockey and trainer should be banned for 42 days not the horse [smiley:crazy]

at least with punishment like that, you'll be assured he wont do it again

All of them should be as the owners were probably in on it

I have my theories as to why they still ran Solwhit in the Champion despite his recent infection/course of anti-biotics 2 weeks prior. Mischief

They had nice little touch on Saturday, was told 5 mins before off only got 2s, but flew home when money down rarely left behind!

I don't know why he does this kind of thing. He's a great trainer and there are easier ways to get a horse beat- why didn't he run it over 10f or something instead. The episodes with Solwhit at Fairyhouse and now this are just giving him a bad name and he's not doing much for that young jockey either.

Charles Byrnes has decided not to appeal against the decision of the Listowel Stewards to hand him a €2,000 fine, having been adjudged to have used the racecourse as a training ground for his Pittoni's fast finishing fourth in the Slan Abhaile Race on Saturday.

Having originally stated he intended to appeal "without a shadow of a doubt", Byrnes decided against an appeal after consulting with the horse's owner Patrick Wilmott.

And to lovel up the debate, Corkonian yesterday drifts from 6/4 out to around 5s+ on here and trails in down the field and nothing done cuz its trained by WPM imvho

BJG i think there is a huge difference between corkonian and pittoni to be fair. Corkonian was off for a year and a half had only won a bumper so we dont know how good he is and he was making his debut over hurdles. Pittoni is a grade 1 winning hurdler who was running against pigs.

Excellent point, well made, Arthur.

I must say I side with Arthur and Sint on this one.
