I am going to watch The ARC for the first time and I was looking to get any advise.
Is it best to get a ticket? Are there different ends like a premier enclosure or anything thats a better view?
Betting? Is it just a french tote kind of thing over there? Are there any bookies?
What sort of time should I look at getting there and what is the best way to get there from the centre of town?
Anything useful please let me know as I have never been to Paris and would just like to get a bit of a plan sorted!

Tickets at the door, was €4 Sat and €8 Sun last time I was there.

All one enclosure, only PMU betting but of course you can take a phone.

Free buses run back to the major train stations in town.

Take the train to Porte Maillot or Port Auteuil and take the free bus to the course (both saturday and sunday). Don't think about walking it.
It easy enough to get tickets on the door or you can order in advance via france gallop. Viewing is just one enclosure but Sunday can get busy as the locals seem to head out just to watch the big race.
We normally arrive about an hour before the first race after taking in an early lunch in the Latin Quarter (18 - 20 euros for 3 courses). Food at the course is not great.
Normally bet with the PMU on the Saturday (French tote, no bookies) but don't bother on the Sunday, its to busy, either do your bets before or on the phone.
But most of all enjoy, its a fantastic weekend's racing :-)

I agree with DoctorODx don't bother trying to put a bet on the sunday as you will have to get in line as the previous race ends and by the time you get to the front the next race will be starting. I get there an hour or so before the first race to look round the place and I would get a racecard early as they sold out half an hour before the first race the year i went.

Ok thanks so far. What is the best way of betting then? On the phone? Does betfair work or will I have to use a bookie?
Report Kingmambo • September 14, 2010 7:33 PM BST
betfair works fine in paris.  put your main bets on here beforehand and bring your mobile in case you fancy anything on the day.
Report BraveInca2006. • September 14, 2010 7:44 PM BST
Betfair works fine over phone and its not that difficult to get a bet on the PM if you want. Max queue is typically only 5 minutes.
Report Kingmambo • September 14, 2010 7:50 PM BST
Use your mobile and most British books will give you PMU odds if you request them though so I don't see any benefit in betting at the course.  Plus I got ripped off by one of our robbing French cousins manning a PMU booth when San Sebastien won years ago.  My fault obviously for not checking but it left a bitter taste!

Been the last 3 years, on the SUnday you have to write all your bets out first thing and get to the PMU early to put them on, p[hone signal for internet not the best when at the course.
Dpeends where you sre staying to get there people have mentioned the correct train and bus there last year we stayed Suresnes which was ideal 5 minute walk to the course.
TIckets will eb free ont he website above but thats normally just for the sunday but 4 euros for the saturday and its quality on he saturday as its so relaxed not busy at all.

Print your tickets from here.
For Betfair you will need a proxy server(easy to google)
Be very careful with your pari-mutual bets on course some of their staff are no better than common thieves make sure you use the ones which display an Union Jack.
Remember many of the races will have coupled horses ie same owner
Following  the AGA Khans horses is usually a good idea.
Bonne  Chance.
