A truly excellent renewal today. I may be that we find out how much Midday has improved. if this lot cannot test her the pan to miss the Arc would look very timid indeed.

If Midday trounces this lot surely she would be supplemented for the Arc. She would be installed at about 5/1 if she won the race today and was announced an official Arc contender.

I may have got this race all wrong, but Midday does seem to be better now than either Sariska or high Heeled. She acts well on soft going and stays very well. she seems only to have the immensely promising Sarafina to beat. Sarafina will, like Snow Fairy was at York, taking on the older star filly for the first time. She could be in for a bit of a surprise.

3/1 Midday - this has to be decent value, she should be around 6/4!

GL cry, i'm on today, love this mare.

A fascinating race.

However, I am not sure Midday will uphold the form with Sariska if the ground is truly soft, assuming of course that Sariska consents to put her best foot forward.

I appreciate Midday won the Nassau on softish ground last year but acting on those conditions and wanting them are two entirely different things in my book.

The thrashing handed out by Sariska in the Irish Oaks, on admittedly dreadful ground, is still fresh in my memory but how can you back Sariska after her antics at York last time ?

With the talented Sarafina still unexposed this is a race to watch in my view.
Report sintonian • September 12, 2010 9:54 AM BST
There is also the fact Midday will be a little bit fitter than Sariska imo. Sariska's target is the Arc in 3 weeks time so she is likely to be 95% fit today, in my view. I would be delighted with a top 3 finish.
Report sintonian • September 12, 2010 10:17 AM BST
Elenor Duse runs at the Curragh today,3.45. Not sure she wants Soft ground ? She's progressive anyway but perhaps flattered to place lto given Sariska never left the stalls.
Report sintonian • September 12, 2010 10:19 AM BST
Actually looks a decent race with Aviate in there.
Report downallstar • September 12, 2010 10:21 AM BST
I like Shes Our Mark in that race Sint, probably has a few lbs to find with a few, but the CD and going will suit her. 8s e/w looks my play.
Report sintonian • September 12, 2010 10:25 AM BST
yeah was thinking the same Das. She looks the eachway play given she is a cert to like conditions. The British raiders have never raced on Soft before, but they have not been pulled out, so perhaps they'll be ok ? .. tough one imo.

dont forget lads the draw is the opposite at longchamp .
nightmare draw for sarafina.
Report sintonian • September 12, 2010 10:45 AM BST
with the form of Gosden High Heeled must have a decent chance too. Quite a hot group 1 this is imo.
Report Teddy Sheringham • September 12, 2010 10:48 AM BST
one that interests me is the German Oaks winner Enora who could spring a shock at a big price, lto she came from last to first finishing like a train almost Zarkava like (see link below) not sure what she beat but the 2nd has since won a g3 easily. Shes 201 currently with the books here but could be higher on the pmu. If Sarafina has one on eye the arc they might not want to hard a race.

Report RUSSJR • September 12, 2010 11:54 AM BST
bit concerned about the ground for midday , otherwise she would be a good bet!
Report bornisthekingofSB • September 12, 2010 11:56 AM BST
tbh i have always felt High Healed is a pound or two below this sort of level, but the form of the yard is a plus
Report Graeme83 • September 12, 2010 1:02 PM BST
Sariska available at 9/2...on this kind of ground that is a very good price. If i was having a bet today i'd wire in.

I was a bit disappointed in Midday today. I don't think she had done much work since York, and seemed to struggle a bit on the ground. She is better than that.

Ahe won't be going for the Arc now. A real thrashing of that lot was required for a change of mind I'm afraid.

What a great filly though, probably my favourite of all time (and that is quite a long time too)!
Report vinnie_roe • September 12, 2010 2:55 PM BST
still 3-0 to sariska then. Silly
Report cryoftruth • September 12, 2010 2:59 PM BST
I won a lot of money from Sariska and she was a super filly. However Midday has left least year's form behind this season and even if Sariska hadn't decided to an impersonation of an utter dog she wouldn't have bothered Midday.

I like Sariska quite a lot more now as she has made the price for Midday backers twice in a row. 3/1 this morning - quite ridiculous.
Report sintonian • September 12, 2010 3:02 PM BST
please dont aftertime Cry.

I personally found that result quite hard to take because i've been backer her all season for the Arc. And until 3 weeks ago there was no way of knowing this would happen.

Im devasted tbh!

sintonian

if you look at the start of the thread I did note that 3/1 was a silly price and that was when I got up the morning and availed myself of the generosity of StanJ.

For what its worth I backed midday at 120+ and layed it all at 75, so she would have been a great runner for me too.

I had arranged to go to see her win the Arc too if she ran.

Two very decent fillies (though not as good as Ouija Board) and Sariska was definitely the better class filly of the pair imo, even her 2nd place in the Coronation is probably better than anything Midday has done this year - just a shame she turned into a complete cow!!
Report the lay preacher • September 12, 2010 3:59 PM BST
no chance in the arc

might there be change of mind??  bywordwas KAbdullahs arc horse and it surely wont go now.If workforce doesnt come right he wont have an arc horse .....come on henry ...no superstars to beat this year
Report dananders • September 12, 2010 5:09 PM BST
theres no doubt sariska has alwyas been better than midday . i never backed sariska never do i wish her a very happy retirement shes got great character. i think lemaire on sarafina was a joke
Report A_T • September 12, 2010 5:14 PM BST
Midday was always holding Sarafina - just like Goodwood and York she had plenty up her sleeve.
Report dananders • September 12, 2010 5:47 PM BST
i doubt that . i thought today she was definitely not at her best midday and sarafina was given a ridiculous ride and wasnt even hit witht he whip more than once . i would still back midday if they met again but i dont think midday was in top form today and on that ground sariska would have probabaly beat her . midday is a great filly though but wasnt 1 of her best today but she got the job done
Report the lay preacher • September 12, 2010 6:23 PM BST
midday was handed todays race on a plate it was virtually a 3 horse race sarafina was not off a yard as she was having a prep race for the arc and you know about sariska.having said that she is a cracking filly but she wont be winning no arc .
Report Figgis • September 12, 2010 6:41 PM BST
I wouldn't be too disappointed with Midday's performance, COT, if you check the times it becomes evident that the race wasn't truly run. I thought she travelled as well as ever, but it was difficult to show her true superiority in a race run like that. I still reckon she's got a huge effort left in her. The only downside to today's race is that connections will probably take it at face value and shy away from taking on the colts.
Report sintonian • September 12, 2010 8:58 PM BST
well done on baking the winner, cot and das. As you say Sariska made the market for you!

I think there is more to it than meets the eye tbh. The fact Connections decided to retire her almost immediately after the race suggest to me she has been showing signs of this kinda of thing at Home and they had this in the back of their minds. Otherwise why retire are top-class 4yo filly who seemingly has only developed this moody behaviour on her last two starts ?? Anyway, one of those things and something to learn from.
Report Graeme83 • September 12, 2010 9:06 PM BST
Midday prefers better ground so she done really well to win. A dual conditions horse. Let's hope she wins her race over the pond.
Report sintonian • September 12, 2010 9:08 PM BST
Has to be Favourite. What price was she last year .. 11/4
Report Graeme83 • September 12, 2010 9:22 PM BST
Sint...shes 7/4 with 365, yet 10/11 or evs with others. I don't expect the 7/4 to last long....two minutes maybe.
Report PFtrader • September 12, 2010 9:48 PM BST
Worth mentioning that the Cecil team got their tactics spot on today, they were in exactly the right place when the sprint began.

Also credit to Tom Queally, I feel he is really growing in confidence as a jockey which is probably natural when these high profile/group victories start coming your way. It is great to see the resurgence in the Cecil stable and the trainer jockey combo look as though they are going from strength to strength and long may it continue.
Report cryoftruth • September 13, 2010 1:06 PM BST
It seems from postmarks that Midday was about 10lbs below her very best today. She took the race because others were not off.

I agree completely with the comment about the ride Sarfina got. she tried to gibe Midday quite a few lengths start, and even at the 3 furlong marker the jockey did nothing to close. It was a slow run race and if the jockey had been remotely trying too win he would have got her into contention much sooner. She was basically given no chance at all.

I think Midday is a better filly that Safina, but I am biased. However the Safina in the Arc will be a rather different matter than the one we say yesterday.

The 7/4 about the fillies and mares was, as others have stated a very very silly price and it lasted until mid morning today. Evens is all you'll get much of now. However looking at the likely opposition, Midday has a better chance than a penalty kick to win it again. she is definitely better this year and the opposition looks even poorer!
Report sintonian • September 13, 2010 1:51 PM BST
Just out of curiosity .. what are the Rules IF connections of Sariska decided to change their minds about retirement ? Is it two chances in the country of racing before you get banned ? Or would she get a ban now anyway ?
Report dananders • September 13, 2010 2:33 PM BST
wouldnt get banned for that . its not entering stalls. she dint even need to be stalls tested before her last run
