PROMINENT 2,000 Guineas hope Peter Martins will miss the rest of his juvenile season after suffering a setback, trainer Jeremy Noseda has reported.
The once-raced son of Johannesburg was expected to prove a force in the top late-season juvenile races and is as short as 14-1 for next season's 2,000 Guineas. Set back: Jeremy Noseda PICTURE: Edward Whitaker He won on his only racecourse outing to date, running out a clear winner from Colorado Gold at Newmarket in late July. Noseda told his website: "Unfortunately he has met with a slight set back which means that it would be a rush for us to prepare him for a significant autumn target. "Therefore we have decided to finish him for the season and look towards a prep in the spring for the 2,000 Guineas. "I have always had a great belief in the horse and am thrilled that he has had a run at two. I think hewill improve substantially physically from two to three." |

That's my bet down then
. In my experience, once a horse gets an injury it's a slippery slope from then onwards. He will also be lacking experience early next year having won just a maiden - the Group race experience at two would have been invaluable. |
