STARSPANGLEDBANNER looks likely to line up for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday, although a final decision on his participation will be made early on Thursday. The Golden Jubilee Stakes and July Cup winner, who finished second when dropped to 5f in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York on his most recent start, pleased trainer Aidan O'Brien on the Ballydoyle gallops on Wednesday morning. Speaking at 2pm, O'Brien said: "We were happy with the bit Starspangledbanner did this morning and it looks like he will be going to Haydock, although we will check him out in the morning before a final decision is made." With Johnny Murtagh required at Leopardstown on Saturday, O'Brien added that Colm O'Donoghue will probably ride the Australian import, who hardened in the betting to 2-1 favourite with a number of firms following the news Paco Boy is set to bypass the race in favour of Sunday's Prix du Moulin at Longchamp. |
