I sat next to Jessie Harrington at a dinner a month back and she made no bones about the fact that she thinks that this is the best flat horse she has ever trained. Won well first time up in a decent maiden and yesterday.....don't think he could have been much more impressive........ran very green early, looking around, but when he was asked to knuckle down he did so with the minimum of fuss and won as he pleased. Will unquestionably improve for the race (potentially a fair bit)and will be a serious challenger for top two year old honours. Happy with my 33s ticket for the Guineas. The owners had said (a month back) that they would not sell.....may be different now, but I hope not. I would love to see Jessie given a clear run at the back end of this season and next year with this fellow....opinions?

Like the horse a great deal. Wholeheartedly agree that it would be wonderful for Mrs H to keep the horse as a 3 year old. When she has a good one the lady avoids nobody.

He is a horse who I really liked the look of when he won on debut, then the way in which he travelled when disposing of Glor Na Mara last time in the Futurity marked him down a very smart prospect. It will be fascinating to see whether he can counteract Zoffany's turn of foot tomorrow - they look two totally different horses to my eye, so it'll be interesting to see who comes out on top. For me, it has to be Pathfork all the way.

Did the job well enough today. Looked as if he wasn't all that keen on the ground. Travelled best throughout and proved that he is a battler who will dig deep. Will be interested to hear what Jessie m made of the run.

Harrington said: "Fran said he had to be really tough and that he didn't really like the ground.

"Pure class got him there in the end and it's just fantastic.

"I felt sick beforehand and my panic during the race was that he was in front for so long.

"I'm going to the sales at Keeneland in the morning and I'll make plans with the owners then.

"He did have a very hard race there."

Think he liked the ground better than some of the others. Not sure how he is so short for the Guineas off the back of that on the ground. Thinks 14s would be more realistic.

Joint favourites for the 2000 Guineas at 10s are Pathfork and Saamidd who both won today.  The market is a tad volatile. Silly

When I spoke to Jessie back in July she said that if he was good enough she was keen to come to England for one of the big end of year races.......although I can't help but think that her American owners might be very tempted by the Breeders Cup (which I suspect Jessie would be dead against!)
Report richardf September 12, 2010 3:52 PM BST
Interesting to read what Fran Berry said today about how much scope he has to develop from two to three.

"It was pure guts and class got him home. He was treading water in the last 100 yards," said the jockey.

"I was very worried all week when the rain came - the ground was very soft.

"He won despite the ground even though he looked to be travelling well he was never totally comfortable. It was more a relief that he got through it.

"He prefers much better ground. When he won the Futurity Stakes he showed an impressive turn of foot at the furlong pole on good to firm ground.

"A mile won't be a problem - he's very relaxed. I don't know how far he'll stay after that, time will tell.

"He's not only a two-year-old - he's a big, scopey horse and he's physically still weak.

"If he goes the right way over the winter and fills his frame, a mile will be the ideal trip to start him off next year.

"He's going to be a lovely three-year-old,"

PATHFORK BREEDERS' BID DERAILED

By Ashley Iveson, Press Association Sport

Jessica Harrington's unbeaten juvenile Pathfork has been ruled out of next month's Breeders' Cup meeting after suffering a minor setback.

The American-bred colt took his record to three wins from three starts with victory in the National Stakes at the Curragh last time, and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile was due to be his next assignment.

"He's had a bit of a setback and he just wouldn't go to the Breeders' Cup ready enough - you need to be 110%," said Harrington.

"We said all along that he needed not to miss anything. He worked last Friday and everything was fine but we weren't quite happy with him on Monday.

"We just had to back off him and we've taken a view today that we can't go having missed working him this week, which he needed to do.

"You can't go over there just hoping that he'll be all right, so we'll let him down now and get him sorted out.

"It's disappointing for the owners and I feel sorry for them, but that's horses for you."
Report richardf October 14, 2010 4:57 PM BST
Could put the Guineas back on the agenda............and must increase the chance of being sold.

He surely hasn't done enough to get a spot in the Kentucky Derby field now has he? Would almost certainly have to go to America for a race in March or April to qualify.
Guineas must be much more likely now.

STRAIGHT TO GUINEAS FOR PATHFORK

Jessica Harrington is considering sending Pathfork straight for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in May without a prep run.

The County Kildare trainer reports the unbeaten colt to be progressing nicely in his winter quarters following a successful juvenile campaign in which he won all of his three starts, culminating in the Group One National Stakes at the Curragh in September.

The son of Distorted Humor was being trained for a crack at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs in November when he sustained a minor problem which ruled out a trip to America.

"We're very pleased with him," said Harrington.

"He's done very well, he's grown and he's developed.

"He's cantering away at home and he'll stay cantering for another couple of weeks and the work will get stepped up all the time.

"As for targets, a lot will depend on the weather.

"At the moment I would say we'd go straight for the 2000 Guineas."

Pathfork, who had subsequent Racing Post Trophy hero Casamento a head behind in the National Stakes, is around a 14-1 chance for the colts' Classic.

Bets back on!! Happy

Added him to my Breeders Cup Classic portfolio with along with
So You Think and Awesome Patriot.

Clearly a nice horse, rock solid form, scores well on the dosage but more importantaly he has the necessary 10f dirt breeding. Distorted Humour has sired a whole host of wonderful 10furlong dirt performers at the highest level...Funny Cide even picked up the first two legs of the US Triple Crown.

Owners wanted to take on Uncle Mo last year b4 injury scuppered that chance so if he has a good season they might send him over again.

Harrington maps out Pathfork Guineas route

BY BRIAN FLEMING 6:31PM 24 JAN 2011

JESSICA HARRINGTON may send the unbeaten Pathfork for a prep race before tackling the 2,000 Guineas if spring arrives early this year.

Pathfork had been mentioned as a possible Kentucky Derby contender last year but looks set to remain in Europe.

"If we had a good spring he could run in the 2,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown Confused , but it takes place early this year [on March 27] so we'll wait and see," said Harrington. "I won't mind if he goes straight to Newmarket without another run and we're pleased with him since he came back in."

On his final start last term Pathfork defeated subsequent Beresford and Racing Post Trophy winner Casamento in the National Stakes at the Curragh. This followed success in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes, a race won before by the likes of St Jovite, Giant's Causeway, Hawk Wing and New Approach.

Pathfork is generally available at 14-1 for the 2,000 Guineas.

I know he won the National Stakes on officially soft ground but I think he will prove best on faster ground and if he gets that he looks as good a bet as any against the favourite at 14/1.
Report EastLower Gooner January 26, 2011 6:14 PM GMT
Wonder if we could see him in the Prekness or the Travers later on?

problem with the K Derby was the graded stakes earnings. wouldve struggled to get a run unless they committed to a prep race or two stateside to boost his winnings.
Report unclepuncle January 27, 2011 9:51 AM GMT
From mwhat I saw last year, combined with his breeding  think he'll be best at a mile so the American triple crown races wouldn't have been ideal anyway.
Report unclepuncle January 27, 2011 10:00 AM GMT
Just wathced his 3 wins again on atr website and the more I watch him and look at his pedigree the more I really fancy him. Not going to go in now as with Frankel making the market I don't see him shortening considerably.

10/1+ on the day on good or better will do me[;)]
Report ELG January 28, 2011 12:27 AM GMT
agreed he will do well over a mile especially with the dam being a winning miler by Sadlers Wells but his dosage mark and exceptional juvenile form had him as one of the leading contenders in the K Derby if they had choosen that route. Hopefully he'll mature over the summer into a progressive horse over the trip.

Jessica Harrington's unbeaten colt Pathfork remains firmly on course in his bid for Classic glory in the Qipco 2000 Guineas on April 30.

The three-year-old rounded off an unbeaten juvenile campaign with a narrow defeat of Casamento in the National Stakes at the Curragh, and Harrington is happy to let her charge line up at Newmarket without a prep run as she is keen to preserve him for the long season ahead.

"He's working away and with the sun on his back he looks strong and looks well," Harrington told At The Races.

"I'm very happy with him and it was always the plan to go straight to Newmarket.

"He has American owners and their aim would be to get to the Breeders' Cup this year, so it's going to be a long season.

"I'm just hoping I have him well enough for the Guineas first time up. We'll just see how things go, but it's very exciting."

Harrington also has a live contender for the 1000 Guineas in Laughing Lashes, a Group Two winner last year and second in the Moyglare Stud Stakes.

"She's very good and she's grown a good bit over the winter," the trainer continued.

"She's a big filly, I'm very happy with her and she's going straight for the Guineas.

"She's only really now beginning to fill out and mature."

i saw Jessie at Aintree on Friday, full of hope. Only problem is that Pathfork needs it quick and Laughing Lashes needs cut. So it better rain pretty hard on the evening/night of April 30th.
Report bobbylemoko April 11, 2011 10:07 AM BST
I wouldn't be put off by Distorted Humor - obviously a dirt sire with little European form but Pathfork has already proven he can travel and win on worse than good ground. He'll be much better on quicker. The hope is that Frankel wins the Greenham against weak opposition this weekend and keeps prices artificially high.
