Running in the Meld Stakes 2moro night.

Runs against Famous Name who should give a solid guide on where this "hype" horse is.

I wonder can Aidan get a few Group 1s out of this fella?

Think you might be right about eric_morris [:o]

These were my thoughts on him from another thread fwiw:

One thing I've said all along about him is he's a one paced galloper, think he showed it again last night. Famous Name ran a good race and after wfa gave Steinbeck 5lbs on top of that so I actually think that was Steinbeck's worst performance this year or at best no improvement.
Soft leads in small fields are probably his best chance of getting wins but not against a top class field. Will be interesting to see if they do go down the staying route, not 100% convinced a proper middle distance trip is what he wants although 1m2f looks no problem.

Think ben10 might have been the only contributor on the thread that caused kirk's demise. Kirk should have kissed ass kept stum like Post reporters on issues and he would keep everyone happy.

He did go strongly against St Nick on a stupidly long thread on here and was strong on Steinbeck in singles and doubles then Canford Cliffs in a big treble with Big Bucks 3s, Kauto 7/4. Steinbeck won't be any good over trips further than a mile IMO though I believe he had/has potential turns out his injuries may have affected his career and in that respect prima Donna was right.

As for Kirk wouldn't be surprised if he is on here claiming he won k's on Nadal at Wimbledon or something else made up.
Report eric_morris • July 23, 2010 11:55 AM BST
Would imagine he laid off Manifest for a free bet and backed Timepiece in the race after the Oaks as well ... Total joker that guy.

Steinbeck could be set for Saratoga next week
By tony o'hehir 11:58AM 23 JUL 2010

USA: Steinbeck, runner-up to Famous Name in the Group 3 Meld Stakes at Leopardstown on Wednesday night, could be headed to the US next weekend for a major dirt test at Saratoga.

Aidan O'Brien has nominated the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga as a target for the son of Footstepsinthesand.

O'Brien said: "We're looking at sending Steinbeck for the Jim Dandy Stakes on July 31.

"We were very happy with his run at Leopardstown as he had a break after Royal Ascot and was just ready to start back.

"It was his first run over 1m1f and it was also his first run on easy ground. We will make a decision early next week."

The Jim Dandy, a 1m1f event, is the major trial for the $1 million Travers Stakes, the signature race at America's most beloved racetrack on August 28.

Looks like Ballydoyle are getting desperate because very few of their horses are any use over here. If they flop on the dirt then they are a touch of bother. Happy
Report Tiswallaceno7 • July 23, 2010 2:29 PM BST
They dont care really though?

There have the 3 best Stallions in Europe....they have arguably the 3 Best up and coming sires in HRE/DT/Fasnet Rock not to mention Top USA sire Giants Causeway

Who wants to breed from Footstepinthesand this early anyways or even Oratorio. They are at the bottom of the food chain at Coolmore.

They be retiring another son of Montjeu(fame and glory or even St Nicholas Abbey)
Another son of Galileo(cape blanco or RVW)

Me thinks they are very happy with how the year has gone so far even though it hasn't worked out as planned regards the running of ballydoyle.

They have HRE wrapped up as Freshman sire
They have top 3 according to the RP in the sire's list
Even the largely disappointing sires such as Rock Of Bibraltar and High Chaparral are moving in the right direction as is Choisir.

I would take that[;)][;)]

If they care about sending them to the shed over winners then good for them. However i'd say there's only so many cars or big houses you can by. If i was a trainer i'd want winners.

Me thinks they are very happy with how the year has gone so far

They DO care and they are not happy with how their runners have gone on this year..........they are disappointed so far,Starspangledbanner has at last given them a top class colt,as A-T says the Ballydoyle 3y'olds are just average,a fact that I agree with. Now at last people will accept that Steinbeck is only HYPE,as I've said before "a puff of nothing",the best of luck to him in the states I reckon we have seen the last of him over here!
Report Tiswallaceno7 • July 23, 2010 8:15 PM BST
Of Course they won't be overthemoon with the Ballydoyle 3yr olds this year

but

They can still retire one son of Galileo/Choisir/Montjeu this year whereas their main competitors Darley can retire nothing....Cutless Bay gone backwards as has Cavarlyman...Simon De Montfort(where has he gone?)...Kingsfort prob wont be seen until next year....Delegator...Al Zir...Passion for Gold all no where to be seen. Couple this with the fact Darley OZ has 30 million debts this year alone in the Southern Hemisphere. Nothing so far from the 2yr old brigade. I think they be delighted with Coolmore performance compared to the rest of the market.

The fact now remains that Workforce will retire to Juddmonte obviously as will the Aga Khan recent Group 1 winner by Cape Cross in France. The 2 best horses from their produce they won't have Breeding Access to. Add Sea The Stars to the list and Darley are pulling their hair out at the missed opportunities.

The whole Ballydoyle setup is to breed Stallions....Aidan O Brien has done that year in year out without any blemish with exception to a couple of barren years(even Vincent O Brien has his faults cite Classic Throughbreds was it?). The conveyor belt is moving constantly. Danehill Dancer doesn't have many years left but they have Holy Roman Emperor coming straight up through the ranks with a exceptional pedigree for a stallion.

Coolmore will know this year won't be a success with 3yr olds but they can't expect to have a Classic Bunch every year. In fact the way Aidan O Brien is training these 3yr olds is making it harder(impossible) to get them pinpoint ready for Classics some would say.
Report Graeme83 • July 23, 2010 8:29 PM BST
I couldn't care less what they can or can't retire. All most of us care about is people who get their horses racing, and hopefully winning or running well. All this son of this and son of that isn't of my concern when the Irish chancer uses British racing as a platform to make him richer whilst treating British punters with disdian, just like P. Power. When i watch the Hanons roll in the winners, it's not all the shed business i think of, it's the horses crossing the line first and being trained well by people who i think have been more than fair to everyone this season.

Wasnt implying you more off Prima Donna(as he is a Bloodstock Genius)[:D]

I not sure what you point is regarding Paddy Power or Aidan O Brien treating British Punters with contempt. The fact you used your nationality means that you have some sort of idea that Foreigners are ruining it for you and your fellow punters. Maybe their is some truth in that but its nothing compared to Ireland

Very complimentary I'm sure,[;)] but completely untrue. Though I am married to an astute and successful breeder. Graeme83 whilst you may not care for the breeding aspect 'shed politics' do enter into Flat racing in a big way.Hannon horses as a rule are less affected by this as generally they have lesser pedigrees and it takes more proving on the racecourse before they become valuable stallion prospects. Just look at the lack of offers for D!ck T and CC to stand as stallions.Tiswallaceno makes some very valid points.
Report Graeme83 • July 23, 2010 8:57 PM BST
Not really, although i guess i highlighted their nationality as i think people travelling over to another nations tracks should show a bit more respect. I'd be disappointed if British trainers went over to Ireland on a regular basis and behaved like the Coolmore operation. Remember last season when the Breeders cup was on, everyone was bending over backwards to give interviews and press conferences. I also think people like Stoute and Gosden should improve also. That man could have pulled Dar Ri Me earlier than he did. Godolphin at least have an excellent site and do talk to the press, although i think they could at least keep people a little more updated on the horses we all know about who aren't running so far this season, but they do have a manager and spare us all with the walk on water rubbish. Racing in general needs better interaction with people who follow racing.

Not sure what that means? Other than being plain offensive. Sounds like they've decided to just start again with him and give him chance to find his level. He's now taken a Listed and Group 3 race so he's got a bit of confidence up. In terms of future targets this year he'll probably find it tough and I guess if they wanted to go for a Group 1 race again that would be the Breeders Cup Mile. Not saying he's a bet or anything but he now looks to be going the right way; he probably paid for a light two year old campaign and seems to be maturing now at least. Think there is scope for improvement next year if anyone like Mike De **** is looking for a Dubai horse where he'd probably find a race and nice pot. 6 races in 4 months isn't bad for a cripple anyway [;)]
