I haven't logged in for a while so apologies if this subject has already been mentioned. This comes from teletext on freeview.
North Yorkshire trainer Mark Johnston has has said a huge increase in fixtures is damaging the industry.
Mark Johnston has enjoyed great success in flat racing, training thousands of winners, but he told BBC radio York ''in the lasst five years we have almost doubled the number of flat race fixtures''. '' Frankly, there's too much racing, there is too much bad racing and it is hardly suprising we are boring the audience''.
Haven't bought a RP for a while either, so this is maybe old news, but I can't help but agree with him. Any thoughts on the matter on a more sensible forum?

I agree with him. I haven't been bothering with many of these nothing races because i don't know if the horses are half cooked or not.
I will put this on horseracing to get as many views as possible.
it will be quite a relief if they cut fixtures by 200 or so per year/ There is far too much racing and not enough prize money to go around.
cutting fixtures will be good for the punter long term

Mark Johnston comes out with a lot of arrogant tosh for an intelligent bloke but he's right on this one. Unlike his views on 48hr decs which fails to take in the views of the wider audience without whom he would be back to being a vet !
