It is a very poor field. Understandable that there's no Workforce the Eclipse is a graveyard for all but the very greatest Derby winners. But inexplicable why O'Brien is not running RVW or F a G and instead is fielding some of his very slow 3 year old colts.

If they don't run Twice Over because of the ground, then they can forget it.

O'Brien said Fame and Glory is on a break after a very busy early season. He won't be lining up in the King George either.
The Rip might be under a cloud as we have only seen him the once all season. |

Yes there's not going to be any easier chances to grab one of the top all-age races.

I'm wondering if they will run Beethoven in this race ?

What a p1ss poor renewal, still better than Mount Nelson's though

desperate stuff this race.
probably going to come on a ton from the St James. Murtagh or Ryan replacing the kid. Step up trip could be in his favour (sire won this race nicely). wonder if they might change the headgear now...go for 1st time Blinkers. won the dewhurst with the 1st time visor. maybe a switch will eek out something extra. |

supposing twice over doesnt run and the trip catches Dar Re Mi out.

after today the forecast is rock solid warm so it's likely to be quick ground.
interesting the COC described the going as Good,GF in places yesterday, so after the hot spell we have had where practically all other tracks are like a road, it makes you wonder if he's bought himself a new hosepipe! |

Piss-poor field anyway so surely the taps will be left on to ensure Twice Over shows up?

Lord Grimthorpe on ATR shortly about Twice Over

Looks a decent enough contest to me.
Mawatheeq 2pt win 1 pt place @ 8/1 |

I'm going for Viscount Nelson. Got to within 4 and a bit lengths of Canford Cliffs over a mile, was the same away from Lope De Vega (who I think is about the best horse in training over around 10f) in the French Derby over 11f. Tomorrows trip should be ideal. The race is a tough one but Viscount Nelson could be the surprise of the race, we've all seen how much better they are running now than they were on the English/French Derby weekend. This horse could spring an upset for Coolmore.

Twice Over a worthy winner though. 2nd and 3rd were flattered after TO had to make all his own running which didn't suit him - that's the closest they'll ever get to a G1 win.

Good battlling win for Twice Over, in a poor renewal of what once used to be one of the better races in the calendar.

Did anyone catch what John Gosden said afterwards please ..

Said Queally was determined not to repeat prince of Wales ride, so set too strong pace and fractions for the first 2 furlongs were a lot stronger than for the last two. Thus, while his mare was burnt off early, Twice Over tired badly and almost got caught. Not displeased w Dar Re Mi performance on that acount and looks forward to going back up to mile and half w mare.
