My thoughts too, MP, think we both know the answer though. It's Monterosso for me. I backed him at Royal Ascot, on account of his improving profile and his previous win in that Newmarket handicap, which made him top rated on my figures (I don't rate the Derby form as highly as some). The King Edward VII was a slow run affair but at least that should mean that a quick reappearance won't be a concern. Cape Blanco and Midas Touch would be no pushovers if returning to their Derby trial form, but you'd have to be worried about which way they're going after they're most recent runs.

Think JV is worth another chance tbh given he lost two shoes. That cant be easy around a track like Epsom.
Report neill d June 23, 2010 6:04 PM BST
piss poor renewal
Report Graeme83 June 23, 2010 6:22 PM BST
Not a hot race, and barely even a comment from trainers or anything. Thank god the world cup is on. Might flick over to watch it if i remember.
Report topweight June 23, 2010 6:27 PM BST
Jv is the only group 1 winner in the field trained by the specialist stable in this race whos horses have just started to hit form. He gained more valuable group 1 experience and seasoning in the derny as did the same satbles' f&g, soldier of fortune dylan thomas, galileo and frozen fire. This beast vshould command utmost respect and will hose up.

***that should have been Derby**
Report mythical prince June 23, 2010 8:37 PM BST
yeah i agree with u on this figgis m8, the johnston horse is the obvious one
Report A_T June 23, 2010 9:43 PM BST
Monterosso looks the one who might have some class
Report mr_sykes June 23, 2010 11:20 PM BST
CB for me,dont like JV either, the race will stay in Ireland imo....
Report Over the last June 24, 2010 11:28 AM BST
Carriglawn could be a decent ew bet at 20s in a weak renewal
Report A_T June 24, 2010 8:28 PM BST
Murtagh to ride Cape Blanco. Ballydoyle's Epsom colts must be even worse than I thought for CB to be favoured over them.
Report Prima Donna June 24, 2010 8:48 PM BST
I just wonder if they are scratching their heads a little with all their runners, I bet Coolmore will not want Kings Best to be Champion sire this year with Workforce, so as at the moment Galileo heads the sires list they will do all they can to get Galileo Champion sire again.
You could say ALL the Ballydoyle 3 y'olds are moderate from what we've seen so far.
Report Graeme83 June 26, 2010 6:53 PM BST
I'm nowhere near convinced that Cape Blanco is better over 12f than Jan Vermeer and Midas Touch. In fact, if they are run behind pace makers i think Cape Blanco will finish in behind the both of them. Heffernan has won the Derby a couple of times in recent years, so it wouldn't suprise me. The again what do i know, i'm not even convinced Monteroso is better than Chabal, despite everything pointing to the contrary.
Report Try My Best June 26, 2010 8:00 PM BST
Jan Vermeer to win the race he should have been targeted at from the beginning.
Report cruise d June 27, 2010 12:00 AM BST
I've not had a bet in the race yet and may not do. Ballydoyle have lost the plot with their 3 year old Colts this uear IMO as the Derby form shows for me. There is no way you can be sure which is better between Jan V, Midas Touch and Cape Blanco. With that in mind and the fact that they have all had fairly recent and hard races I'd be siding with Puncher Clynch e/w if I was gonna have a bet. He improved massively to win a group 3 last time with At First Sight just behind last time and has clearly been trained with this race in mind unlike all the other runners.
Report top3 makin ahern and de souza June 27, 2010 8:56 AM BST
seamie to bag another irish derby for me
Report A_T June 27, 2010 9:41 AM BST
Monterosso for me the rest look well exposed as ordinary.
Report unclepuncle June 27, 2010 1:01 PM BST
Coordinated Cut for me at the prices.
Report A_T June 27, 2010 1:06 PM BST
Chabal non-runner
Report cruise d June 27, 2010 5:06 PM BST
I've had bets on Puncher Clynch at 23, Coordinated cut at 13.5 and have just had a bet on Jan Vermeer as well. We know he likes 10f at the Curragh and looks to me to have the best chance of the Coolmore runners.
Report mythical prince June 27, 2010 5:42 PM BST
jan vermeer ran ok actually, just that it shows with cape blanco how galileo is a dominant sire
Report EastLower Gooner June 27, 2010 5:45 PM BST
Nice to see a horse come good....people need to give up on that french derby...its a joke race now.

very pleasing run from Midas Touch.

Jan Vermeer has Eclipse written all over him.

At First Sight should be odds on to join MikeDK at some point imo.
Report mythical prince June 27, 2010 5:51 PM BST
cape blanco going for the king george
Report mightymoyes June 27, 2010 5:58 PM BST
rematch with workforce should be worth seeing.
Report mythical prince June 27, 2010 6:04 PM BST
i'd favour cape blanco at the likely prices
Report A_T June 27, 2010 6:07 PM BST
awful renewal IMO - field of ordinary horses finished in a heap.
Report vinnie_roe June 27, 2010 6:16 PM BST
they should reduce the prize money and use the extra funds to create a sprint and a mile group 1... both badly needed.
Report Figgis June 27, 2010 6:18 PM BST
Well done winners, agree with A_T though, ordinary form.
Report mythical prince June 27, 2010 6:57 PM BST
cape blanco has done nothing wrong though. has real battling qualities which we have yet to see from workforce.
Report Figgis June 27, 2010 8:24 PM BST
Forget Workforce, MP, the KG is Harbinger's [;)]
