Interesting pedigree.

Clearly a very useful prospect, but I was even more taken with STRONG SUIT (Richard Hannon), who looks tailor-made for the Coventry.

I was at york that day. Every single bet I have won since has had a stake from the winnings on Elzaam. Beautiful horse, whizzed up and one of the best looking maiden winners I have ever seen. Have no fear.

He is definitely the most exciting 2yo I've seen so far.

I'd agree with Strong Suit.

expensive redoutes choice colt bred by kia ora stud here in australia then sent to the UK once bought, looks a very, very nice type, i can tell you right now that he will be really hard to beat if he does indeed line up in the coventry.

Strong Suit's form boosted by fact that Godolphin have already transferred across the second horse (Neebras) over from David Lanigan

I would be a little concerned with the potential watering at Ascot for this horse. He looked so good, and moved so well on the genuinely quick ground at York last time, he was gliding in the final stages, and there were a load of NR's that meeting. So if the Ground is Good, or watered, he might not look so impressive.
Just a slight reservation but I agree he looks pretty decent at this stage. |

Duncan - Re Elzaams dam. "Mambo in Freeport" by Kingmambo. Don't know much about her but my notes for another task show she was a winner in the US, has bred winners (She is 11 according to the RP, that and her sire is all they have. Someone will no doubt have more.

Anish and Darmita very moderately performed singapore horses who were originally raced in australia, again very moderately. but Mambo in Freeport is a half sister to 2006 Del Mar Debutante (G1) winner Point Ashley and multiple graded stakes winner Raw Gold.

the following link is to this article: also features a picture of Elzaam as a yearling.
http://www.breednet.com.au/news2006.asp?id=59625 A small number of yearlings by Redoute’s Choice were sold in Europe last year as a result of his covers to Northern Hemisphere time in Australia and one of the resulting youngsters saluted at York overnight in impressive fashion. Trained by Michael Jarvis for Sheikh Hamdan, two year-old Redoute's Choice colt Elzaam was sent out favourite in the six furlong maiden and duly scored by a length and a quarter from a big field of 16 runners. His win was impressive enough for connections to announce he will be set for the Group Two Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. Other noted European trainers with Redoute’s Choice youngsters in work include John Dunlop, Barry Hills, Sir Michael Stoute and Marcus Tregoning, so it will most interesting to see what they make of the progeny of our champion sire. Purchased for €280,000 by Shadwell France at the 2009 Arqana August Sale, Australian born Elzaam (pictured in France as a yearling) was bred by Kia Ora Stud and is a half-brother to two minor winners in Australia and is out of Mambo In Freeport, a winning Kingmambo half-sister to Group One Del Mar Debutante Stakes winner Point Ashley. His dam Mambo in Freeport had a year off after producing Elzaam to get back into Southern Hemisphere time and had a filly by Henny Hughes (USA) last spring and was then covered by Fastnet Rock. |
