New Approach was fine though, his trainer just said he didn't want to run it because he'd never won the Irish Derby.
By:
Fair point, main thing is the horse can bounce back from yesterdays piece of work.
By:
yes he can. what does that have to do with new approach?
By:
Yeah I agree, think I said something similar yesterday; if he's not showing what he's done in the past though it has to be a worry but you'd like to see him confirmed for the race now before getting involved again.

New Approach was an uncertain starter and now St Nic is an uncertain starter.

By:
SNA is an uncertain starter yet he is 7/2 on here. NA was an uncertain starter and was trading at 90+. Give it up fella.
By:
One huge difference between the two is that NA gave his Derby backers reason for optimism at Newmarket.

Perhaps his price tells you something.

as i understand it...his work at home & his times before the 2000 led them to believe he would pi$$ the gns...he did'nt...now he his working less well...you want us to keep faith...no tnx..
had no faith before & less now... |

In the top hundred dumbest posts of 2010.

The only way I see him as being similar to New Approach is that they both had the best form going in to the race and both were as likely, if not more likely, to improve for the step up to 12f as anything else in the race. The lack of early pace in the Guineas gave him no chance against proper milers and, for me, people are being very harsh on his run there. I havent seen a trial this season that, in my view, St Nicholas Abbey wouldnt have hacked up in.

If you rate the races I reckon SNA only ran a few pounds below any of O'Brien's other runners anyway.
By:
In that case he should be 10/1 (with a run).

But obviously the others had conditions more to suit them as Am said.

Well we don't know who likes what yet. Just pointing out the folly of backing this horse at 7/4 a week ago, which I would bet is just what the OP is trying to rationalise with this moronic thread.

Probably right about the 7/4, as you know I've stayed out of it so far.

Good. It may be worth going with one of the brains on here. Plat = Midas and Trev = Workforce. JV way to short to back now, even though he has been put up by a couple of smart ones too.

But obviously the others had conditions more to suit them Nail. On. Head. If he had been campaigned like O'brien's previous Derby winners and taken a more traditional approach i.e. Ballysax/Derrinstown or Dante then for me he would have won any of those trials that have been run this season easily. It seems to me that people are very keen to knock St Nicholas Abbey despite what was, given he is a Montjeu and there was a slow pace, a perfectly respectable run in the 2000. Would he have won the Dante? No doubt. Would he have won the Derrinstown? No Doubt. Would he have won the Lingfield Trial? No doubt. Would he have won any of the Chester trials? No doubt. Would he have won the Sandown trial? No doubt. |

I'd love to know who was the person who had €1 matched on St Nick at 2.3

New Approach very nearly won the 2000 Guineas. St Nicholas Abbey was stuffed in it.

By:
Wonder what was the lowest placed Guineas colt to go on to win the Derby...

Would he have won the Derrinstown? No Doubt. Would he have won the Lingfield Trial? No doubt. Would he have won any of the Chester trials? No doubt. Would he have won the Sandown trial? No doubt. Would he have won Jan Vermeer's trial too? Would he have beaten Rewilding at Goodwood? What an animal he must be. Or is it the case that you've backed him all winter expecting him to be Sea the Stars Mark II (which he so clearly is not) and are talking through your pocket? |
