Price reflects the uncertainty over whether it'll even run at Ascot.

Please reveal the source of your uncertainty A_T.  It is her clear intended target.

Markets still prefer Paco and RVW (who hasn't even run yet this season).
By:

When: 23 May 10 16:04
That's it?!

Three things.  Paco Boy was visually impressive in the Lockinge.  RVW was one of last season's top milers and is trained by AOB.  Markets often underestimate French horses.

There's nothing in the market to suggest she is uncertain to run.  As Charlton said, you are just guessing.

alrite give the guy a break . but ive not heard much from the trainer saying she is a definite runner in the race

Perhaps you should do more research then dan.

Head was interviewed on ATR this morning where he stated the QA was the target and he needed to run her today to prep her.  There are quotes after today's race where he states the QA is the next race.

Relax if she's a cert to run at Ascot then why worry? Just wonder why she's not hot fave. Can't see RVW being fully wound up (there must be a question why he hasn't run yet)so that leaves one to beat Pacos Boy overrated in the eyes of many. My contention is the Breeders Cup will be her target and can see connections not wanting to take in a competitive race overseas. Freddie talking about running her at Ascot is quite different from her actually turning up.

No, your contention was not that the Breeders Cup will be her target - which, given it is almost 6 months away and that a horse can have more than one target, is merely stating the obvious - but that her price was due to "uncertainty" over her running at Ascot.  A view you had also expressed on an earlier thread, by the way.

When asked for evidence for this uncertainty, you simply offered a view on the current prices in the market, which as I suggested above are readily explained (if not so easily understood) given the context of a market containing both Paco Boy and RVW.

I am totally relaxed as to whether Goldikova turns up or not, as I have not had a bet, although it would be nice to see all three turn up.

While it is obvious we will not definitely know whether she will run until raceday (for reasons such as ground or injury), it is clear given Head's quotes, that she is an intended runner, and not an uncertain runner as you have claimed.  I hope this helps.

Forget about the prices, although i do understand that value is very very important and to those who have got 7/2 vouchers Goldi i congratulate you all if she turns up, but PACO BOY is the winner of this by along way!

A_T asked Which is more certain to run at Ascot? Goldikova or Paco's (sic) Boy?

As Head enthused over the well-being of Goldikova, Richard Hannon jnr, assistant trainer of Paco Boy, said there was still an outside chance he would run in the Golden Jubilee Stakes instead, although the Queen Anne remained the much more likely prospect. (Racing post website 6:52pm yesterday.)

i hope this helps.

surely paco is a huge back to lay in this race

he may well get beat but i'll be surprised if he doesnt trade considerably shorter than his s.p. in running
By:

It's not as if Goldikova is a closer like Paco Boy. She'll be sitting at worst 2nd and probably travelling well, Paco will need luck in running so you couldn't say that he's certain to trade lower than his SP.

from the racingpost:

Queen Anne the plan for Boy - unless going is soft
By Jon Lees 12:00PM 8 JUN 2010

PACO BOY will only contest the Golden Jubilee Stakes in the event of soft ground at Ascot next week as connections insisted they “won't duck” a clash with champion mare Goldikova.

Derek Lucie-Smith, who heads the Calvera Partnership which owns the Richard Hannon-trained Paco Boy, said Britain's leading older miler was 80 per cent certain to run in the Queen Anne Stakes, in which he could also face Rip Van Winkle.

“We are 80 per cent certain to run in the Queen Anne,” he said. “It's only if there was a lot of rain. There is rain forecast for the next few days but it's all dry next week. We wouldn't want a slog in soft ground at Ascot, but I just don't think it's going to happen because it drains well."

Goldikova's trainer Freddie Head says the French champion is in the form of her life in the build-up to her clash with Lockinge Stakes winner Paco Boy, who finished third behind her in the 2008 Prix du Moulin before he was subsequently disqualified over a banned substance.

Paco Boy's only start at 6f last season resulted in a fourth place in the July Cup behind Fleeting Spirit.

“We are really looking forward to doing battle with Goldikova,” Lucie-Smith added. “I want to race her again because last time we were beaten a length and a half. I know she has improved enormously but we have as well.

“I think Rip Van Winkle will have to be terribly good to win first time out. I believe we weren't at our best at Goodwood [in the Sussex Stakes] because we came back very sore after that race, that's why we gave him all that time off.

“We really want to go for the Queen Anne. We won't duck it because of the opposition. We'll only duck it because of the ground."

I don't personally back ante post anyways, and certainly NOT the flat! I do however dabble in cheltenham festival markets but not before November when there is more news flowing out from trainers yards.

Antepost on flat is 80% guessing game, very little news and/or reports come from the flat boys. IMO!

Head has been adamant that Goldikova was going to Ascot for this race and that was that. Still can't work out exactly why she was as big as 7/2. Now 7/4 and could go off 6/4.

I agree with Tavaris. Goldi will be up top and travelling well and I can see this race very much playing out like last years Sussex - with the french mare winning with an enterprising and no-nonsense ride instead of rip, who will need the run, and paco coming 2nd and sprinting away from the remainder when the race is already over and done.
