Picked this up in Tesco yesterday for €10. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Legends-of-Horse-racing-DVD/dp/B003GCVH42
6 dvd set, with 5 on horses and 1 John Francome picking legends of racing.
Have watched 2 of them so far: The Year of Dancing Brave. A horse called Nijinsky.
Have Arkle, Sir Ivor and Mill Reef still to watch. Each is 30-55 minutes long.
Fantastic stuff for anyone who's interested. The footage is top class, I'd never seen 95% of it before, may have seen Dancing Brave in the Arc and Nijinsky in the Derby but getting to see Dewhursts and King Georges etc is great.
How did Dancing Brave get beaten in the Derby? Or Nijinsky in the Arc?
Reckon I'd have lost a packet on them both!
Was very interesting to hear from both the owner of Nijinsky and Vincent O'Brien himself that even in 1970 the St Leger was seen as nothing more than a prep for the Arc.
Horrible sight to see him hobbling around in a cast but great that he made it through. Those were 2 amazing performances in the Gimcrack at 2 and the Ganay as a 4yo. I don't think there can be any doubt who would have won the '72 Eclipse.
Watching these really just makes you appreciate even more what we've seen from Zarkava and Sea the Stars in the last 2 years.
Glad there were a few interested!Just watched the Mill Reef one. Great stuff.Horrible sight to see him hobbling around in a cast but great that he made it through. Those were 2 amazing performances in the Gimcrack at 2 and the Ganay as a 4yo. I don
If yer gonna start loving Mill Reef then don't forget the Brigadier, who hammered him in their Guineas. [;)]
Waaaaaaay before my time but must've been great stuff for the fans of the time.

Brigadier won it after Mill Reef missed it because the whole stable got a bug.
It didn't show the '71 Guineas and I was a bit disappointed about that but I'm certain that, despite my absolutely nil knowledge of the time, Mill Reef would have had him over 10f [:p]

I was at the '72 Eclipse, and at Newmarket for the '71 2000 Guineas to watch The Brigadier but the ground at Sandown for the Eclipse was desperate. It is likely, but not definite, that Mill Reef would have beaten him that day but only because of the terrible ground. Before the Eclipse Mill Reef had won the Coronation Cup where he only just beat Homeric who was a stable companion of The Brigadier but not in the same parish as him. Mill Reef was brilliant on soft ground but would never have beaten The Brigadier on good or faster ground over any distance. On fast ground The Brigadier was absolutely brilliant.

I doubt it will be in my local Tesco as most customers wear tracksuits so are obviously running fans.
Thanks for the info. I might find it in a posh Tesco nearby.
