Does anybody see the track at epsom being a problem for this fella?

a comination of fast ground and downhill running would imo be a concern

that said any fast grnd would be concern as CP could keep something back in fear of what happened at york

pure conjecture mind

wouldn't get the trip in a horse box - zero chance on breeding.

This fella will eat up the last 2f

no stamina at all on the dam's side - no hoper.

Must be massive stamina doubts.  Rolling along at York when it's rattling proves nothing.

There is obviously enough stamina imparted from the sire, if you couldn't see this by the way he won going away over 10f then its time to find something else to do.

always look for stamina on the dam's side for Derby winners.

Can't see the 12f being a problem. I guess backers will just hope he handles the track well enough.

His combined sire index is ok imo.
Also believe what your eyes tell you, he was not struggling to get 10f, was not stopping over the trip, to say he def won't get 12f after the Dante is hard to fathom.

Not sure why it should be obvious this horse will get 12f.  What do you boys think is the limit of his stamina then?  A convenient 12f or is he a Cup horse in the making?

Race looked like it fell apart to me anyway.  Chabal didn't turn up, Circumvent's a Listed/G3 horse at best, the race CC won at Newmarket is not working out and Workforce was still green, hating the ground and had tack issues. The winner's yard clearly think they've got at least one better too.

Anyone going in at current odds, with additional doubts surrounding his wellbeing and ability to complete the course without striking into himself, needs their heads testing imo.

TH - They can't all have run bad races in behind, can they?
I prefer this type of Dante performance to last year, when we had the best Dante ever Laugh, one horse stamped his mark on a decent field in a v good time imo.

There were only 4 of them, das, so yes I think they all either didn't perform or possibly aren't that good anyway. I've never thought the trainer sends his best, or even second best, Derby hope to York too?  Where exactly is this horse in the Ballydoyle pecking order?  I'd plump for 3rd or 4th.  If there weren't a few injuries in the squad wouldn't he be off to Chantilly ? Looks an ideal Jockey Club horse to me.

Agree that it's nice to see some daylight in a trial, though, and backed up by a nice time (potential red herring?). Anyone on at big prices will understandably be getting excited.

Its hard to know the pecking order in Ballydoyle, I'd say they will keep hyping SNA as their no.1, but I'd take CB over him every time, he's done nothing wrong so far, and yes i'm quite happy with my AP bet Grin.

I liken CB to Mastercraftsman last year, was not hyped as much as Rip or Fame and Glory, but he done the business and was under rated imo(including by the stable).

I'd liken him to Mastercraftsmen too, das.  A 10f horse! [:o]

You know what i meant!

Mcm was equally as good over 8f as 10f btw(he was also at home on GF or Hvy).

Top horses can be at home at more than one trip imo.

Suggest you go back through previous Derby winners and look at the distances that the progeny of both the dam and the dam's dam have won over.  Then come back and tell me that CB fits the bill.

I suggest you go back and watch the Dante again.

(What about the Oaks last year? First two were by sprint sires! But both were impressive in their trials, despite their pedigree)

You are making too much of it, the horse clearly does not lack stamina.

We're talking about the Derby not the Oaks - done the research yet?
By:

When: 15 May 10 18:34
I have my past research done on previous Derby's going back years, as I am a trends fan, so don't be getting smart.

Like I said watch the Dante again and don't be worrying about his dam. The horse clearly stays whether you believe it or not.

This is not an exact science! They don't always do what it says on the tin!

We clearly have differing opinions on this matter, so rather that this escalate into a slanging match, best we just wait and see what happens June 5th.

The fact that a horse wins the Dante on fast ground does not in any sense prove that it will get a mile and half around Epsom.

To be fair Jo,it doesn't prove it won't either, part of the puzzle innit [;)]

worried about its breeding....dam a 5f sprint specialist.

do u think it could see out a searching 12f test at epsom?

i rememebr his relation Mr Obrien...yup he was useful out in the states...probably the equivalent of a pipedreamer / steele tango over here.

Very very laidback horse is Cape Blanco....if his half-brother by Mukaddamah can go close second in 11f Grade 1, i'd be worried about dismissing his chances of staying being by Galileo. Granddam's half-brother ran in 2 Cesarewitchs, btw.

the dam being by presidium would put me off tbh

and the winning of a trial when his two main opponents, in a 5 runner, underperformed would also throw up more ?'s

yet the rp rate CB's performance 120 and MT's only 116.  this defies logic imv

anyway i wouldnt touch CB at 5's but if i was on at 25's +; id be quite smug

june 5th showdown [>o]

.5sec slower than Sariska.. no mean feat for a 3yr old FTO... IMO he will prove much better than Midas Touch in time..
