Lack of a search feature means that I'm not sure if there was already a thread on him, but think he probably deserves one. C&P of what I wrote in the Duke of York Stakes thread.
Really strange that Starspangledbanner is going for this rather than the Lockinge on Saturday.
He's shown that he stays every yard of a mile in the Caulfield Guineas, you'd think that he'd be more valuable to Coolmore as a European G1 winning miler than he would be as a G1 winning sprinter. Although is that the case if he goes back to Australia to stud?
Haradasun went Lockinge then Queen Anne, though he had run in longer races down under. I could see this fella winning tomorrow, but hope he's well beaten. Rip Van Winkle gets bumped to the Prince of Wales in Royal Ascot and then the Queen Anne is there for the taking, just the little matter of Goldikova to overcome.
Decided to take a few quid at 34 on that happening anyway.
Can't find a video of the 2010 Newmarket H'cap where he was 3rd beaten 1 1/4 l giving 4lbs to the winner (Wanted, who also beat him in the Lightning) and 2 to the 2nd. RP comments in running say.. Outpaced and ridden after 1f, behind until headway 2f out, finished well.
yep said on numerous threads on here...he will run and win the Queen Anne.
Straight after the Newmarket Handicap his jockey said to the tv reporter - dont be surprised if Aidan steps him up to a mile now cause thats what he wants.
at caulfield he just ran them ragged from the front over the mile.

ELG 23 Apr 10 04:02 the word I got is that starspangledbanner is stepping up to 1mil at royal ascot...queen anne mile.
nicconi is a speeeeeeedball. youtube that lightening stakes....do think we got anything as fast as that. freak.
Lets hope the info is correct! I lost my phone with my Coolmore contacts number in it..
I could get it back but I gave up when Frozen Fire was tipped for me in Chester this time last year! Wouldn't have backed that one that day with counterfeit!
Have to admit I did remember that so went looking From the Nicconi thread...ELG 23 Apr 10 04:02 the word I got is that starspangledbanner is stepping up to 1mil at royal ascot...queen anne mile. nicconi is a speeeeeeedball. youtube that lighteni
Hoovered up the last of the decent odds left TJ. Watched that Caulfield Guineas run there, looked a very taking performance. Backed Haradasun a couple of years back and I hope that this gets the first day of to a flyer. ( if it runs that is! lol ) Deffo worth the punt!

Good luck Marsh. This time tomorrow there could be 1000 available though!
Hard to know what to want tomorrow. Would a G2 at 6f do them? and then the G1 over 8f? Or if he's beaten tomorrow just go straight for the mile..
Why not the Lockinge? is nagging me! No Rip, no Goldikova...
Ah well, if he stays sound there's a chance!

Guineas was a canter for the first 400m which turned it into a sprint home.
Golden Jubilee is the race for him, he would be a big risk over the straight mile at Ascot for mine.
6-7f horse imo. Guineas was a canter for the first 400m which turned it into a sprint home. Golden Jubilee is the race for him, he would be a big risk over the straight mile at Ascot for mine.
What a great lay Starspangledbanner would be if he ran in a Queen Anne. But I would be nothing short of stunned if they ran him in the Queen Anne. Coolmore have him as a Caulfield Guineas winner - they don't need to test suspect stamina, which is what it is, again at a track that will be stiffer than he's ever faced before. Win the Golden Jubilee against 2nd rate sprinters.

Haha hope not as I'm on board for the Jubilee and haven't given up on him winning that as yet.
He was fairly disappointing but I suppose the stable isn't firing at present and he should improve into Ascot.
For the end of a Group 2 sprint they certainly appeared to be walking by the end of it.
SSB hit the line with all the force of a wet piece of lettuce.

Think he is too slow for the Prince of Wales and I think the way the stable is going they will be hard pressed to have Rip ready for 10f first run back.
I'm hoping that is the case anyway as I still feel that the Jubilee is the perfect race for SSB. Up the Ascot hill makes the 1200 more like an Aussie 1400 which is perfect for him.

That run only strengthens my confidence for the Golden Jubilee. SSB comes out the best at the weights on the York run, and he should improve for fitness. I still can't have him doing what Haradasun did under any circumstances.

Article in the Aus press today said 'Trainer Aidan O'Brien said he was happy with the run but raised doubts about whether the import will be able to take in both the King's Stand Stakes and the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot next month'.
Suggests the Jubilee is where he is headed.

O'Brien pleased with Starspangled debut By Paul Eacott 10:07AM 13 MAY 2010
AIDAN O'BRIEN was pleased with the British debut of his new recruit Starspangledbannerat York on Wednesday and is now looking forward to a trip to Royal Ascot with the Australian sprinter.
Starspangledbanner finished fifth in the Duke Of York Blue Square Stakes, beaten just two lengths by Prime Defender, and O'Brien expects him to come on for the run, having had his last outing in his homeland inMarch.
O'Brien said on Thursday: "We were happy with Starspangledbanner yesterday at York. He showed plenty of pace in the race but settled well, Johnny [Murtagh] said that he just got a little bit tired in the last half furlong.
"He should come on a lot for the run and if everything is well with him, we will aim him at the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot next."
The son of Choisir is a best-priced 12-1 with Coral and Victor Chandler for the June 18 Group 1 over 6f.
