After the guineas he stated that Gile Na Greine would go for the oaks. A mile was short of her best trip. Surprise Surprise seems now she is to run in Irish 1000 Guineas. Seems that if you just assume the opposite to whatever he says then you will be correct more often than not.

thought if they were going for the oaks they'd shoot for the same race Lush Lashes won at York post Guineas.

He might have a great chance of winning the Derby though, having the Dante favourite. Sure we are all wishing Chabal the best of luck to give the trainer what he deserves.

Chabal is overpriced as won the only solid trail for the Derby. Goldophin now trains the horse as you well know

Is it worse to lead someone up, or down the garden path Confused
Report trev w May 11, 2010 8:16 PM BST
i reckon this is the garden path...late withdrawal for gns
runs in the oaks...

Would be really clever if he did that, you'd have to admire his shrewdness if he did that ... well ahead of the crowd, genius in fact Stephen Hawking eat your heart out.

take her out of oaks then supplement her at the 5 day stage . This tactic would ensure as much at 1000 as he wanted. Hard to know if he changes his mind every 5 minutes or goes out of his way to mislead

So obvious with hindsight isn't it plat?

would Bolger really sell a horse if he thought it could win the Derby? Love Laugh

It wasn't his horse though

It was that fancy South American lady's who's married to the rich Irish guy who used to own the Independent

Also had Casual Conquest and Chinese White in recent years

TBF Chabal has done better than most Godolphin 2yo buys

Whatever happened to Fast Company?

Wonder if Emerald Commander or Kingsfort will ever be seen on the racetrack again?

CryCryyou must remember JSB Love couldn't give two fooks about someone putting €;20 on betfair on an antepost bet... He has stated in the past that Gile does not possess the speed of her sister but would stay further... which strikes me that she'll go for the oaks... if the ground came up softish in the Guineas he'll let her take her chance imo....

Anyone who thinks he's deliberately misleading punters with quotes about targets is wide of the mark... he says what he thinks and will do what he thinks...the last thing he's worried about is a few people looking to make a few hundred quid trying to second guess him...

I know for a FACTthat the New Approach Entry in the derby was a mistake despite all the conspiracy theories [>o]

Are you saying Jim Bolger entered New Approach in the Derby by mistake, and then decided to run him anyway, although he had not trained him for the race?
Report trev w May 14, 2010 6:31 PM BST
kins...he only decided on the thursday morning to run him.

what a stroke of luck eh?
Report cantspell May 14, 2010 6:54 PM BST
how do we explain the fact that this horse was still being backed weeks before the race despite the fact that he said it was left in by mistake pull the other one
Report unclepuncle May 14, 2010 9:08 PM BST
I realise JB is a law uno himself regarding plans for his hoprses (I want to back his horse in the Covenmtry but have no idea if it runs or not so have kept my money in pocket) but he has no reason to kiss punters arses and keep them informed if he dosen't want to - no one forces anyone to back or lay.

As regards New Approach, as a Tartan Bearer backer for the Derby I was fumimg but it would have been just as big a travesty if the best horse hadn't run at Epsom just to keep some layers happy - and I can't believe they genuinely mucked about with entering him just for the sake of getting a few quid on at fancy prices.
Report trev w May 14, 2010 9:16 PM BST
its not about kissing ar$es..or keeping a few backers /layers happy...its just about a bit of respect for the punters of horse racing...and that goes for all trainers.
Report A_T May 14, 2010 9:19 PM BST
yes without betting there would be no horse racing - those involved need to behave respectfully

Yes in effect thats it...it was a human error by his racing secretary who was told not to declare it in the final decs but did by accident....

Next you will tell me Jim Bolger sacked his racing secretary for making a major mistake. Laugh

Its like a fairytale.  Grimm.

Jim Bolger does not have to keep us informed, but the consensus is he keeps us mis-informed.
Report Graeme83 May 15, 2010 10:10 AM BST
He should show a bit more respect whatever anyone thinks. You wouldn't get british trainers going over to irish races and constantly making a mug of them.

Maybe JB is Money Tree[smiley:crazy]
Report gsus May 15, 2010 12:56 PM BST
it maybe the jim thinks she maybe fairly adaptable like lush lashes and would rather try to win a group 1 over a mile then go for the musidora and then onto the oaks. we all know he likes to run his horses every other week (finscael beo) so it wouldnt suprise me if she takes in all 3. or he could just be making everything up like normal.
