Let's try and keep it on one thread so we don't annoy the flat boys. B-)

Champion Hurdle

Bino very hard to beat if he turns up 100% on the day with the ground on the good side.
Khyber Kim, Hurricane Fly?, Dunguib? the dangers...

Champion Chase

Tataniano and Sizing Europe for me at this stage. If Tat is fresh with decent enough ground he could be very hard to reel in and I reckon he could be the Nicholls number 1 for this next year. Sizing Europe, one of my favourite horses, loves Cheltenham, loves the fast pace that the race will have, conditions will suit perfectly. B-)
Zebo will be tough to beat, but he is a bit unreliable.

Gold Cup

Weird Al. Good novice season, would have pushed Weapons Amnesty hard in the RSA imo, seeing that Knockara Beau was as close as he was. Weird Al beat Knocky B fto, receving a fair bit of weight and then bit him easier next time on level terms, showing how much progression he had in him. Only 5 lifetime starts, 2 out of 2 at Cheltenham, going to improve again this year, gotta be a player at a massive price now.

World Hurdle would be interesting if Big Buck's didn't show up, if not he's got it in the bag.

Peddlers Cross will win the Arkle if he goes chasing imo, think the way the Arkle is run will suit him perfectly. Alfie Sherrin is the one for the RSA. B-)

There's a good bumper horse of Alan Kings that I thought might be the sort for the Neptune next year, but I can't remember its name ;\ owned by John Hales and won a bumper at a Northern track (I think) maybe Haydock.

Fire away your thoughts B-)

My thinking entirely, but NJH as a wealth of staying horses.

Reckon Long Run might go for the Ryanair and go Gold Cup 2012.
Punchestowns only one option for me, and i'm going to keep a bit of faith with him as his RSA run was not him at all (down to poor prep?)
Burton Port I can see being aimed for the Betfair Bowl

Joncol is my only decent punt FFT- believe they av to run him this year, cant keep him at home any longer

Weird Al impressed me last year and at 50+;55 threw a few bob on with a few of the main GC contenders gettin on in years

Sanctuaire in de CH - really like him - backed bits here and there between 44/65- obviously has to improve a lot but was highly impressed at Chelt with him and wil forgive him not finishin de race off at Aintree after travellin like de winner al over - stil a young horse and can hopefully improve enough to be competitive, with Celestial goin over fences, PN needs a CH contender

He's still a young horse so somehow I think they'll go Ryanair at Chelts with him and wait a year for the Gold Cup, although he'd have a fair chance in the Queen Mother imo!

That would leave Punchy and Mad Max as GC horses, it all makes sense now Cool

BJG, fair point about Joncol, but there was no reason why he shouldn't have come over this year Mischief suppose that's factored into the price

Would like to see how good Weird Al is against the more experienced campaigners first. Mark of 152 looks very fair so possibly in a handicap first? PP/Hennessey?

Don't think you can count Carruthers, Planet of Sound or What A friend out of Gold Cup picture either.

Ultimately they're all likely to come up a little short but Carruthers ran decent races at Cheltenham and Aintree and is still only 7 so arguably has improvement in him.

Gold Cup promises to have more strength in depth next year even if the superstars are on the wane.

Can't see why Carruthers is more than twice Cooldine's price (Cooldine a year older) except Cooldine is trained by Willie Mullins

LAST season's Weatherbys Champion Bumper winner Cue Card has returned to Colin Tizzard's yard and is set to start training for a novice hurdling campaign.

The four-year-old demolished his rivals by eight lengths on only his second career start at the Cheltenham Festival, and Tizzard reported on Monday: "We had him back three weeks ago and he'll have his first canter on Saturday morning."

Asked about plans for the season, Tizzard told At The Races: "We always thought he was nice, he's only just four and will have three novice hurdle races before Christmas and then we'll take a view as to how high we aim.

"He's got plenty of pace and you can't question his bumper form."

ladies day at cheltenham was world hurdle day this year and it really made all the difference(tongue firmly in my cheek here people)....on another note i've been looking through the champion hurdle and have had a few nibbles at general miller at 100+ odds on here.
went unbeaten in his bumper days then first start over hurdles won over c/d showing signs of inexperience and potential for vast improvement imo, tried 2m 4f around cheltenham nto when he travelled very well throughout on ground that looked a bit worse than the soft as given by the clerk of the course on the day,he eventually got outstayed by restless harry(ran well in the albett bartlett when falling at the last then winning with ease in a grade 2 over 2m5f around cheltenham which wasnt the strongest of races but showed him to be a 3m hurdler who would always get the better of a 2m horse on soft ground over extended trips)
unseated his rider at the first in the supreme novice at the festival where i fancied him to go a lot closer than his 25/1 odds implied, then went to aintree and beat the supreme winner at a track i thought wouldnt suit him as well as the runner up who may have still been feeling the effects of his cheltenham efforts..onto the punchestown festival next when he never travelled at any point in the race when possibly ott the for season.
offically rated 146 for last year i believe he can improve upon that this term and henderson isnt adverse to running a few in the champion hurdle and to me he doesnt look the type to go novice chasing with at this point in his career, sure to avoid his champion stablemate he may go a similar route to sentry duty(top handicaps) but cant say i've studied the list of potential races he may be targetted at yet as ascot may not suit(seems to have been kept to left handed tracks since tackling obsticles but his hurdling has looked fine to me)
so for me he is overpriced on here unless someone already knows he wont be sticking to hurdles for the forthcoming season and could be a live chance if improving upon last season and taking a couple of scalps during the first half of the year(october/december)
any views anyone.??

Cue Card Back In Training After Champion Bumper Victory.
One of the most impressive winners of the 2010 Cheltenham Festival was the fantastic Cue Card who simply bolted up to claim the Champion Bumper, he was a long priced winner for Colin Tizzard at the time but has now been tipped for big things in 2011. He will take the usual course of going Novice Hurdling in the Autumn with Tizzard hoping to get three or four runs into him before Christmas, his performances in those races will determine his path in the new year with a potential crack at the Supreme Novices Hurdle the long term aim. The bookmakers are certainly impressed with him and at this early ante-post stage he is the favourite to win the Supreme Novices, which as always will be the opening race of the Festival in March.

How unlucky is that hoss, FFT wil be very angry imo
Report Wayward Lad August 31, 2010 1:21 PM BST
Its early days yet and I've noted that McCain is seriously considering aiming PEDDLERS CROSS for the Champion Hurdle. Now I love this horse (it was one of my biggest winners at the Festival) and last season, McCain was saying he was going chasing with it in 2010-11. After it won the Neptune, I thought that the horse could become a serious challenger to Big Bucks in the World Hurdle. There are going to be a lot of changes in the hurdling ranks this season, with most hurdlers being outclassed by either Big Bucks or Binocular (depending on which trip they run at).  The Neptune was won in a time 2.23 secs quicker than the Coral Cup over C&D on the same card. PEDDLERS CROSS, to me, looks an exceptional talent. Given that he's just a 5yo and was having just his 3rd hurdle race when winning the Neptune (thereby defying the stat that 20 of the previous 23 winners had run in at least 3 hurdle races). I reckon he could take-on and beat Big Bucks. But will we see that? For me, the jury is out with Denman, and who knows - this may be the season when age starts to take its toll on the great Kauto Star. I would not be surprised to see Nicholls try Big Bucks over fences again and send him for the GC next March.
Another thing about BIG BUCKS is the rating he achieved in the World Hurdle. Buena Vista was given a rating of RPR143 for his win at Cheltenham, 31lbs below the RPR174 rating given to Big Bucks for winning the World Hurdle on the same card over the same C&D, yet Buena Vista ran his race 0.30 secs quicker! There was 23lb between them (BV carrying 10:1 and BB carrying 11:10.
So, by my reckoning, if Buena Vista’s rating is correct at RPR143 then Big Bucks ran to RPR165 and not 174. Its a minor thing, but it puts Big Bucks within striking distance of Peddlers Cross given nominal improvement.
I would have to see Peddlers Cross run a top-level over 2-mile before considering his chances in the Champion Hurdle.
Report Tucho August 31, 2010 1:30 PM BST
Nobody dreams of owning a 3mile hurdler. The World Hurdle is the poor relation of the 4 feature races. I think they'd give Peddlers every possible opportunity to show himself as a 2m contender before they think of trying 3m. It's not like he's a slow horse.
Report R Carver August 31, 2010 1:34 PM BST
Interesting Wayward, i wanted to see PC run in the supreme last yr (who can argue they got the wrong race though, the way he screamed up the hill in the neptune), and would love to see him over 2. I happen to think, however, that BB is unbeatable and only just does enough. I think the higher rating he achieved the yr before is well within his compass again, given the right conditions, and dont think anything can beat him over the stayers trip/track - except in a tactical affair, or if something is good enough to be waited with, and try and pick him off after the last (i doubt anything is good enough to do that). However, as for BB going over the larger obstacles, although people keep saying it wont happen, it is the back of my mind that it will (i've even backed it for the GC this yr, small stakes), leaving the door open for Peddlars in the stayers division (surely the Webber horse will go over fences this yr).

I think there will be a number of horses who will use the WH as a backup plan. Think a few horses will start aiming for the CH and if not good enough might try stamina for WH rather than attempting to go for The Arkle.

the neptune looks to be the race to take horses from for this season with peddlers cross having the national hunt world at his feet(champion hurdle/arkle/world hurdle/rsa all viable options)reve de sivola(world hurdle imo)rites of passage(melborne cup/champion hurdle?) and manyriverstocross/some present/summit meeting/ghizao/quel esprit/finians rainbow and hollo ladies all looking like they can pick up good prizes over the next few years.
for what its worth i'd love to see peddlers go the 2 mile route as he still has many years ahead of him for chasing and could well prove himself good enough to mix it with the current crop of top 2 milers after only 4 runs culmulating in the cheltenham/aintree double which is not only hard to do but shows he has real heart for racing....cant wait for the season to kick off properly :)

Peddlers Cross, knocking bet at 16+, will be half the odds when cofirmed staying over hurdles. When you look in cold light of day you have achoice of Binocular, Solwhit (who can be excused last year as was injured and out of the race a week and a bit before) or one of the novices and best of the novices is Peddlers Cross!
