Sprinter.
Report sj • April 20, 2010 9:33 AM BST
can never say never in this game but after watching LTO how the hell is he going to get the extra furlong?
Report PLASTIC PADDY • April 20, 2010 9:35 AM BST
He can win it but I don't think he should try to make all.
Report CJ • April 20, 2010 9:38 AM BST
The way he drifts right to left he could end up in the grandstand.
Report straightupandown. • April 20, 2010 9:39 AM BST
if he wouldn't of hung left and won by the 6 lengths it could of done he's be 3 or 4-1
makes the 12-1 massive
Report PLASTIC PADDY • April 20, 2010 9:40 AM BST
Might need cover till very late. Not the way he has been ridden before but maybe the horse needs company
Report Cream Of The Crop • April 20, 2010 9:42 AM BST
But he did hang, and he still hasn't proved he stays (pedigree says he probably won't say 1m, especially if it's a truly run race) and just how many more excuses are they going to come out with? He has all the makings of a very smart early season 2yo who isn't progressing as they'd hoped IMO.
Report Stake & Chips • April 20, 2010 9:43 AM BST
The way he hangs, he would probably need to stay 9f to get home.
Report fuzzyone • April 20, 2010 9:57 AM BST
Ascot form is horrid and dubious imo. I hate the track with a vengeance and any horse that wins impressively there i doubt and treat with extreme suspicion until i see it perform anywhere else. Totally irrational i know, but it has become a gaff track with ridiculous ground conditions since its redevelopment imo.
Report duncan idaho • April 20, 2010 9:57 AM BST
needs 1¼m and to stop drifting left imo

Plenty say this, but in all seriousness it is my best track for punting. Find it much easier to read than a few i could mention.

duncan

Yes Canford Cliffs can still win the 2000 gns,he does have lots of speed as hannon has told us so,imo the only way he could win is if the rest of them refused to start.A 6/7f Horse only NOT a miler.

NO

Didn't seem to be stopping to me in Greenham; hung his chance away rather than didn't stay. Many judges I respect think he won't stay. He won't stay as well as Elusive Pimpernel and SNA to name two; but can he outpace them over a mile. Intriguing conundrum; but in short I believe he can still win. 12/1 is a little overpriced to me. If there was no Dick Turpin in the race would have been challenging for2000 Guineas favortism(?) because thrashed the others and turned form with Arcano around in comprehensive fashion. Have to temper this view with news Arcano now not running in 2000 Guineas (hasn't trained on or not ready(?)). Looking forward to race, but all is not lost if you've backed CC IMO. And in case you haven't guessed I have backed him!
Report jamesp • April 20, 2010 11:10 AM BST
No. Canford Cliffs, as we have suspected for a long time, is a sprinter. He probably gets 7f but won't get a strongly-run mile.

The Greenham form looks very shaky, as Arcano clearly didn't give his running. It's hardly surprising that the two Hannon horses pulled well clear of the others (as they were entitled to on form).

Three Valleys anyone?

Can if he gets a very low draw. Will be a danger to all
Drawn out in middle stroke /high he Will be a danger to all drawn (lower) inside of him
Report Marching on Together • April 20, 2010 12:26 PM BST
Wasnt 100% on saturday and will be ridden differently in the 2000.
With a few dropping by the wayside 12-1 looks a good price to me.
All about opinions though.
Report cryoftruth • April 20, 2010 1:04 PM BST
Its possible of course, but I would think he has about a 20/1 chance rather than a 12/1 chance.
Too many doubts like -
is he good enough
will he stay
is he dodgy (he has drifted badly across the course in his last 2 races)

His Royal Ascot win was hugely impressive and he can be forgiven one run (albeit he actually ran very well in France). But he has disappointed twice and has to improve around a stoone from the geenham to go close.

He does have a chance of staying on breeding but so far all the indications are that he is headstrong and will need to settle much better to have any of his undoubted speed left at the end.

The only thing i would say in his favour is, as has been pointed out by a number of posters, the fact that the first 2 in the betting are not bred to be ideally suited to a mile, and may perhaps be vulnerable to a specialist miler. However the first 2 in the betting have form of over 120 at the trip and don't seem to be going backwards. I fear Canford Cliffs, even if he setlles and comes back to his best, may find 3 or 4 too strong at the end - SNA, EP, FM and Awz to name but 4.

i think you're agreeing with fuzzyone and disagreeing with me, sj!!
Report notenough • April 20, 2010 2:26 PM BST
Personally, I think the horse is feeling something..and I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about a problem if he doesn't run well at Newmarket.
Report sj • April 20, 2010 4:24 PM BST
lol sorry yep duncan cant even use it was to early in the morning excuse.
Report jair1970 • April 20, 2010 11:38 PM BST
I think there are a lot of 10f horses in the races and if he gets the mile, there won't be many pure milers to beat.

I also think he'll get it alright and he'll come on a lot for the Greenham run.
