An interesting theory, which has been aired on a couple of other threads already. The Derby will tell us whether or not SNA is likely to have the stamina for a St Leger bid (he's by no means a cast iron certainty, on breeding, to get a mile and a half). Personally, I doubt it.

Didnt the racing pundits think Nijinsky wouldnt stay a mile ? It takes a VERY special horse to win over a mile in May , mile and a half in June and one and threequarters in September , thats why we havent had one in 40 years . I can see the reasoning behind your theory .

Hes also by no means a cert to win the Guinneas Thats my thoery of them keeping Steinbeck for the Curragh , because in Coolmores' opinion only Steinbeck can beat him over a mile . He has a favourites chance in the Guineas , he has the best form , who has better ? |
|
By:
Even though I think SNA will be hard to beat in the Guineas (provided he hasn't gone backwards), I don't envisage him improving much from 2 to 3, I think he'll be vulnerable after the Guineas and I'll be looking to oppose him later on.

Being by Mountjeu , isn't improvement a more likely senario as the year progresses ? He certainly wasn't a pure 2 year old on appearances at Doncaster , just an imposing one , as many of Coolmores are .

I just think that his performance in the RPT was so far advanced of what is normally expected of a non sprinter 2yo that he doesn't have much room to improve, unless he turns out to be a complete freak, which is something I'd rather bet against until proved.

The reason Steinbeck is going for the Irish 2000,is NOT because he can beat SNA over a mile, its because Coolmore's spin and hyping up Footstepsinthesand as a sire, they dont want Steinbeck thrashed at HQ so early in the season, for any of you who dont breed Coolmore have given breeders the hard sell with Footsteps this year off the back of Steinbeck, its not rocket science when you know how they work, all I can say is if you think Steinbeck is there best colt for a GNS,you are all very much mistaken,or have been led up the Coolmore's garden path, the fact is Steinbeck is a hype horse for Coolmore, the Irish is very much 2nd best for them, the NMKT guineas is the jewel in the crown thats why the best colt is going for it!

I gather he is a light framed type, typical Montjeu who is not easy to train, keep condition etc. I doubt he has the temperament/physique/durability/soundness to do a STS...Only an opinion

If he does win the Guineas then there's not a pray any of the other Coolmore horses will be raced against him in the Derby, of course he'll have pacemakers to suit him but certainly the likes of Jan Veemer won't be running, or the St Leger(if he bags the first two).
I don't believe he'll run in the Guineas unless they think he'll win, too much to lose if hes beaten. |
