Been told by Peter Bowen's close connections that this might be worth looking out for for the national. A tough little horse and stays well. You can have 300/1 + for it at the moment.

Don't think he stays and you'll definitely get a bigger price at some point this year, good luck though least you know he's being targeted for it :)
Report joeyjones September 7, 2009 10:07 PM BST
Yes I'm just sharing what I've been told. I'll have some e/w for it before long. I definitely know for a fact that they're targeting the national for this horse and have hopes for him to do well.

a trainer that hopes his horse does well. is that not what every trainer will tell you?
Report joeyjones September 7, 2009 10:20 PM BST
well just knowing that he might be entered is a bonus, at odds of around 500/1 I wont turn my back on an e/w bet.

Stamina doubts. (Look at his Flat Syamina Indices.)

Look at the result each time he has tackled 30+f.

PU Summer National
PU Welsh National
PU Midlands National
PU Whitbread

On a nice weight though.

Sorry, I was digging this out of the archives, and didn't realise that the attempt to post had worked.

Yes, I reckon he's got no chance of winning the race, but with a nice win somewhere soon he'll probably get into the race.

:) :)

Ground was perfect for him today. Been running over hurdles of late, Peter Bowen has done some superb work on him lately.

Always Waining is to be aimed at next year's John Smith's Grand National following his victory in last week's Topham Chase over the big fences.

Trainer Peter Bowen is giving the nine-year-old a well-earned break after he came home 12 lengths clear of runner-up Scotsirish at Aintree.

"He's fine and has come out of the race well," said the Haverfordwest handler.

"He's having a little break now so he won't run in the summer.

"We'll try and go for the National with him next year."

I backed him in the national (stakes returned) and again today and I think it's a disgrace he didn't get in the national.
Report blackbarn April 8, 2011 11:35 PM BST
Town - Why is it a disgrace he didn't get in? What rule would you change that would get him in?
Report town moor April 9, 2011 7:55 AM BST
I wouldn't have phil smith deciding which of the horses on the same mark got in- personally I'd suggest a lottery would be more fair.
Report betilyerded April 11, 2011 6:06 PM BST
I think he should have got in as a previous winner over the fences. Merigo was given a mark higher than his official BHB mark and hes never won over the fences. I backed him at 100-1 thinking he would get in above the other two. How wrong can you be.
