I don't doubt your amazing strike rate. I am the proverbial Mary Magdelene when it comes to you, whereas I smell more than one Thomas lurking about. These feats are astounding. Do you have a tipping line I could call? Or perhaps some sort of online subscription service?
I can see the headlines...
...maiaze continues to a-maiaze...bookies a-maiazed at bumper payout...a-maiaze-ing run continues...

I backed Clan Royal, without being aware of the poor record of french breds at the time. I was there to see him that day and was totally gutted. Even though I would love to believe that he lost entirely because of Liam Cooper's ineptitude in dropping the whip and then allowing the horse to almost take the wrong course, I don't think its a foregone conclusion that he would have won. He was absolutely legless coming up the run-in. Even if I'm wrong, and he would have won despite those factors, it doesn;t alter the fact that french breds have a very poor record. So, no, I don't ignore these things.

fair enough, i haven't done the stats so i don't know how many runners, average price, etc, just when i get told 'french breds haven't won it since blah blah,' i think clan royal would have given half a ride so that statement's not that relevant.

I guess it wouldn't be the biggest surprise in the world if the trend were broken at some point. Any follower of trends has to be prepared for that and some of the Cheltenham results are a case in point. Times and trends change, don't they, (for instance it always used to be wise to avoid the irish trained horses until the late 90's and what happens - 6 of nine subsequent winners were Irish trained) but imo the percentage call has to be to take heed of the trend and bet accordingly in the meantime, and one french bred near miss - whether unfortunate or not - isn't persuasive enough for me

If he was asked for an appraisal of the likely opposition to Black Apalachi he'd be struck numb. And if he wants to prove me otherwise, let loose, with both barrels, please. (This could be a long wait)
What makes his argument even more laughable is the fact he's a poncey student, of age (roughly) 22.
He really is a sad, deluded, stain on humanity.
Cue a condescending response. Good luck with that experiment, you barely pubescent pot of tss.

BA seems a bit paceless - he just doesn't have the class for a national. The comparisons with Silver Birch aren't valid as he was a 140+ horse with Nichols. BA seems to be in the 125-135 bracket which is a class division too low

Can you explain what you mean by this please?
I have not been on for a few days, apologies for the late response. You seem to know who I am, and you are content to** me off, which from your anonymous position is quite easy. Feel free to approach me at the races any time and I will debate any point of racing you like with you. I do not recognise your forum handle, but I seem to have offended you greatly. Perhaps you are a reincarnation of someone else? The style and personal nature of the post is familiar.

And to be fair mythical, you draw a lot of that on yourself with some of the rubbish you post. Plus you do not ever seem to stick to your guns or have any real idea of what you are talking about.

im not really a very nice person at times, i wish i could curb my temper more, especially when people cross me or insult me for no reason. but luckily for you galwayloser the chances of me bumping in2 u in real life are about as likely as black appalachi winning the grand national.
face it if im a hopeless tipster you are much, much worse.. ;)

Oh he has a chance alright. An excellent chance. You Sir, lack insight. I feel that your personal loathing for myself is clouding your judgment with regard to this horse. Pity, as you have outlined your a-maiaze-ing National strikerate above. It is a shame that BA will leave you with egg on your face.
It is as Lichtenberg said: 'One's first step in wisdom is to question everything - and one's last is to come to terms with everything.'
Perhaps you have taken the first step. The next is right in front of you...

thegalwayman 24 Mar 21:42 The ground is my major concern. He will want soft at least.
thegalwayman 25 Mar 21:38 BA is definitely going for the race and will hopefully get in. He most definitely needs at least soft ground.
g/f, good, soft, heavy - all the same ain't it :p

Yes you have picked up on an inconsistency there Academic Rambler, and I salute you for it. For a place wich claims to specialise in 'sharp minds' there is not oo many on this thread.
I thought he would need soft. When I grew concerned that this would not be the case, I phoned my man on the inside to see what he thought. He advised me that the ground will not be an issue for the horse over this trip, and pointed me to his kim muir run as evidence that he can act on this going. I trust this man implicitly, for he is wise.
Confidence undented, we shall proceed.

It has a good chance at a massive price for me. Wouldnt surprise me to see valuescope tip it up in the morning. For those who think its got no chance, I bet you wouldnt have given slim pickings a chance last year and it ran ok didnt it!

Mythical, why do u hope he doesnt place? Just because someone has put across a point that u fail to comprehend? The pionts raised are all fair and at the price he is a good bet.
Out of interest who are you backing for the national? and if you'd like to ellaborate your reasons for your selection as apposed to sticking-a-pin in the line-up for it

hope it doesnt place because galwaymoron is so far stuck up his own backside, and extremely in love with himself and obnoxious to others, if only for those reasons ;)
wish all the best for connections, but i think it might be best to stick with horses that have proven fast ground form, for that reason i quite like butlers cabin, though i wouldnt put anyone off backing comply or die (although i would be concerned he might get outpaced) or mr pointment
good luck all (oops i forgot to add except for galwayman :^0 )

Fair enough. The trend that I'm following is a recent one, in that only one horse (Hedgehunter) has carried more than 11st to win in the last 10 years. Think the race has changed in more recent times with the pace being less frantic and a lot more horses ridden to get home, i.e a lot more in connection jumping 3 out like last year. So shearly on this I'm discounting down as far as Mckelvey.
Takin jolly on with Point Barrow and Philson Run for what its worth

Absolutely lutterworth, the drift this morning is remarkable given that my impeccably placed sources have told me that he has travelled well, eaten up, and has a sporting chance.

I HOPE WE CAN FEAST TONIGHT. IM ON PHILSON RUN ASWELL BUT I HAVE BACKED BLACK APALACHI TO WIN TEN GRAND. IF HE WINS I WILL BE STRAIGHT OFF DOWN THE TRAVEL AGENT TO BOOK UP ANOTHER VEGAS TRIP. COME ON SON!

Cannot see this winning the national in all fairness - best of luck to those who bet it to place possibly
Comply or Die is the bet for me, Mckelvey and Cloudy will be thereabouts i hope too

TGM, I backed him heavily ew last year, and was disappointed he fell so early. The headgear is an issue, but the ground less so - his pedigree suggests to me he would be well-suited by a marathon trip, and those types tend to stay regardless of the ground. My major concern is that he will be clobbered by the 'Aintree' handicapper, which will ruin what was a decent mark. I wouldn't consider a bet until the weights are published, as I think you'll find he gets put up an enormous amount because of the Aintree factor - I guarantee he'll have more than 11-0 on the day, unless they decide to run Denman !

After posting on this thread about this horse for the last three Nationals (and a Becher!) he finally got round today. What a performance. Delighted for the horse and connections.

The thread is from before he ran in his first national. I think he would have won last year and I think Denis O'Regan knows it too! Top bombing from you today.

Though his doubters are indeed numerous, this sprightly teenager looks set to defy the stats and win this years race. I make him a four on shot on my tissue.
Good luck to you all. Remember, steak, wine and virgins for all followers when he wins.
