Hi,

Can someone please explain how an antepost market differs from other markets.

Thanks

in short, its sh!t or bust. If your horse is a non runner its classed as a 'runner' for the purposes of an AP market - hence the sometimes bigger prices.

i see, bit of risk and reward then.

why is the book at 104% though?

Careful buddy, I fell into this trap when I first started out!

Some horses will apply to run but will be "balloted out" and the layers will have to refund the backers. The book is really less than 100%.

Layers only keep the backers money if the horse is scratched by its connections.

Cheers Charlton - laying the book isnt really my thing - but just looking to learn a bit about Antepost etc. So effectively those horses have entered - but not all will run because of an official choice as opposed to pulling out at the last minute at the trainers discretion?

Correct. If trainer declares horse, but its 41st on the list, its money back for AP backers, if its not declared then classed as a loser.

Thanks fellas - I did not expect an easy reply! its not some forums way! good on ya

Thats right. If 45 ask to run then 5 have to come out (based on the racecard number I think) and layers would have to refund bets on those 5 leaving their book most likely under 100%. I think the place market was around 430% earlier!
