I don't think that's anything to crow about as it tends to suggest the Australian races have been easier affairs on quicker ground. Today's performance was nothing special (a handicapper beat her time in the next race with 7lb more) but all credit to connections for travelling 12,000 miles, taking on European horses, putting her record on the line and winning.

I agree. I think the real story is just how good the opposition was. But are we asking the Cav to run a time she never has before (a 3 or 4 length better win?) and when she is clearly not looking good? I think not.

I didn't mean to suggest that her time was all important. Luke never rides her to the fullest anyway, and has admitted that he stuffed up today. But someone wrote in the Racing Post that she was 7 seconds off her best which is garbage. Her best ever was 1:07.36. It's about winning, and Black Caviar wins better than practically any other horse in horse-racing history. Even when hurting and on a foreign track in lousy weather which she doesn't like.

Think the jockey was very lucky...if he had have been pipped at the post I would want a life ban for the jockey and probably a police investigation.

I stand corrected - can't trust the wikipedia! BC's time was 1m 14.10s.

If JARNET had stayed where was drawn instead of shifting 10 places from stall 5 to the inside of BLACK CAVIAR, she would NOT have won, Jarnet has ridden MOONLIGHT CLOUD at ASCOT,
twice in 12 months and messed it up both times. I think that there may be a reason, in FRANCE all horses HAVE to stay straight for 200 metres, or be disqualified, he thought he was being clever in moving his horse behind in both of those races and had no room in the first and when he thought he could get a run another horse owned by STRAWBRIDGE, but trained by BALDING, bumped her and stopped her, she ran on inside final furlong but the race was over. If the rules in FRANCE had really sunk in then he would have ridden her to two superb group 1 wins. |
