Just wondered if anyone had any strong thoughts on which O'brien horses will go to Epsom, how many, which ones will go for the Irish derby. I know in previous years they have thrown quite a few darts at the board, some what unsuccesfully in recent times. Obviously Camelot is a certainty barring injury but also has; 1. Astrology 2. Father of Science 3. Ernest Hemingway 4. Imperial Monarch
Thought out of the horses that have run Imperial Monarch was more impressive than Astrology and stayed on really nicely at Sandown. Obviously EH runs on Thursday assuming ground is good. Maximum of three to go Epsom in my opinion. Could have least two horses in the top three in the betting, potentially all three if EH wins the Dante and Bonfire underperforms.
I keep Imperial Monarch personally away from Epsom. He looks decent same with Astrology.
Vincent O Brien always said you only have one Epsom Derby Horse not 5. Run Tower Rock as a pacemaker and Father of Science.

agree that EH is not going , I do think there is a chance that one of Astrology and Imperial Monarch wont go as I think they may run one pacemaker and two genuine chances. The unlucky horse will then head to France or Ireland.

Imperial Monarch will run he has a derby pedigree and will keep the tradition going his half brother was second in the derby and Imperial could be could enough to do the same. Astrology has to be a doubt to handle the track but he is a very nice type of horse and will be good enough to set a good pace for a long period of the race and maybe nick a place plenty of Aidan pacemakers have been in the same category to achieve similar feet's.

One of Imperial Monarch or Astrology definitely goes to Chantilly and it looks like Imperial Monarch, despite his pedigree suggesting he should be the one going to Epsom.
They didn't even bother to put Astrology in the Arc (unlike IM) and I don't actually think they rate him too highly. I think IM goes to Chantilly as they think he's the second best colt in the yard and can win the race. It wouldn't shock me at all if Astrology was sacrificed at the Camelot altar on Saturday and played the hare along with Tower Rock.

Been saying this now for a few days Imperial Monarch if he takes his chance which I feel he deserves can win the derby! John Gosden and William Haggas were very impressed with him at Sandown like many others! His breeding ticks the boxes - if he doesn't run it's Camelot's!

Johnny G said that 'cos he thought the ground IM gave away was more than that which he made up racing on a slicker surface. The latter races at Sandown, when all the jocks played the Joseph route, suggested the boy did exactly the right thing. You could argue Thought Worthy was the one to take out of the race as he was running through treacle for the last three furlongs.

I thought myself Thought Worthy ran a good race considering the O'Brien camp had opted for the better ground but when John Gosden comes out and says the ground was virtually the same and he gave us 8 lengths and a 1 3/4length beating you have to take note!

Johnny G would have to say that as clearly neither he nor his jockey had walked the track properly. Not sure Rougemont or Stipulate would agree with him, and by the last race the jockeys were literally off the track and running on the road down the back!
