I've been a lot happier with Wootton Bassett in recent days and his next gallop, either on Tuesday or Wednesday next week, will tell us if he runs in the 2000 Guineas. In the piece of work he had the other day he got a bit tardy and had a good blow, but we've been a lot happier with him at home since.
Put it like this, the gallop had the desired effect. It seems to have woken him up again but the problem is he's missed ground work which is vital. If it wasn't the Guineas coming up I wouldn't have given him a racecourse gallop the other day, I'd have taken it slowly and got him ready two weeks later. But if he's going to run in it he's got to work.
We'll take him away again Tuesday or Wednesday and we'll make a decision then. I'm very happy with his demeanour at the moment - the gallop has done him a bit of good. I'd say he's still 50-50 to make the Guineas. The thing is I want to be there 100%, I don't want to get there only 90%. We're not far off it but the next gallop will be vital.
Lady 50-50 to be supplemented for 1000 Guineas
Barefoot Lady surprised me a little bit when winning the Nell Gwyn at Newmarket on Wednesday. She got beat fair and square at Ayr when she was third in the Firth Of Clyde but she was staying on well that day so we were hoping that the trip would suit her well at Newmarket.
She's out of a Tenby mare and it even looks now that she'll stay a mile which is good. You could probably put her last run as a two-year-old at York down to the softer ground.
I just felt before the Nell Gwyn that Aidan O'Brien's Sing Softly was very good and won impressively in Ireland so mine did surprise me a bit. I thought she'd finish in the first five but to see her battle away there the last 100 yards was wonderful. She's very, very genuine.
The owner was very keen to supplement her for the 1000 Guineas straight after the race and I kept saying let's get her home first. He's 50-50 over whether to supplement at the minute - I see she got a quote of 33/1 and that probably frightened him a bit. It's a lot of money, but we'll see. She's 50-50 to run in the Guineas at the moment. We've got to make the decision six days before so we're not in a rush.
Wokingham possibility for Sir Reginald
We fancied Sir Reginald to improve a little with him being gelded but perhaps he was a little bit lucky to win the Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Sprint at Newmarket. The second horse got boxed in a little but in a £150,000 race we'll take a bit of luck! We won't rush him back now. He could go for the Wokingham or there's listed races at Ascot, Haydock or Newbury. He'll get an entry in the Wokingham which would be a good day out for the owner and it's worth more money. Whether he'll get in is one thing and I don't know if a three-year-old could win the Wokingham but he'll get an entry and we'll have a look.
Slim pickings at Tattersalls
We found it very expensive at the sales this week. We were mad about an Azamour horse but I'm afraid I couldn't afford that. Anything we really liked made plenty and a few of them failed the vet which was disappointing. I did get one sent from the sales which didn't sell because of vet issues but she was a filly I really liked. The girl that sold her was shocked that she failed the vet so it'll be interesting to see how she turns out. I'm getting her to train now so I ended up with one. She'll be the right one with a bit of luck.
Saturday runners - Newbury
Jamie Spencer felt if he'd ridden Brae Hill before he'd have held onto him a bit longer in the Lincoln. He was probably the least fancied of all mine in that race but he ran a blinder and Jamie felt he might've won if he had held onto him. He's back on him - and was keen to keep the ride in the Spring Mile - so we're delighted to have him on.
It's interesting to see I've got one drawn one and one drawn 25 so I'm on the right side with one of them anyway. The way the ground is Brae Hill looks to be my best chance.
Prime Exhibit is in good order but when the ground is quick he just won't do it. I'm very worried about the going with him. He's very well - he hardly had a race in the Lincoln as he just looked after himself but we'll have to see what the ground is like and if it's too quick I'm afraid this boy just won't go. He looks after himself but his trainer doesn't!
Saturday runners - Ripon
Arabian Spirit probably wants softer ground. He's got a great draw and he's very fit and very well but it's a bit frustrating for us at this time of the year because we're dressed up with the soft-ground horses and we're not getting the rain. But the horse has to run, he'll go on the ground and he's a very sound horse. I'm just hoping he lets himself down on it.
Halla San hasn't won for a long, long time. He was third in the Chester Cup but I do feel the handicapper has to give him a bit of a chance now. We're getting him ready again for the Chester Cup but we'll just have to see how he gets on but it's a tough ask for him. Hopefully I'm wrong and he wins. We'll just have to see.
I'm struggling to get to grips with my two-year-olds a little bit. We normally work them and sort them out on a grass gallop but the grass has been extremely quick this year. Because they're so young I won't hammer them on it at an early stage - we haven't been on the grass now for three-and-a-half weeks. Arcticality is only very small but tries very hard and is a natural little runner but I'm not quite sure how good they are at the moment. She's very genuine though.
Saturday runners - Doncaster
I'm delighted to give Toni Syddall a ride on Bawaardi as she works very hard for me, while One Kool Dude got beat by another one of mine at Beverley the other day. He's quite a nice horse, but Richard Hannon and Kevin Ryan's both look dangers. He deserves to win and he's very genuine. Paul just felt he pricked his ears the other day and perhaps he needed a lead.
Bridle Bell has taken ages to come to hand but she's fit now. She's a nice filly who probably will want ten furlongs in time. She'd have a chance. Changing The Guard probably just needed the run the other day and he should come on for that.
Saturday runners - Haydock
Danderek was very disappointing the other day but we're hoping the trip will help him. He gallops very well and I hope the 1m2f will suit him.
Overwhelm would be my best chance in the race with Mr Optimistic. Mr Optimistic is fit but I just think the little filly deserves a bit of luck and she'd have a chance. Adlington probably wants a little bit further and though he's fit and well it looks a warm little contest. Tarooq has been working extremely well. He's a late maturing horse and he could run alright at a big price

Wootton Bassett will not run in the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
Richard Fahey's stable star had been rated at 50-50 for the colts' Classic and now the Malton handler has admitted defeat in getting him ready in time for the contest on April 30.
He told sportinglife.com: "We've run out of time. It's disappointing but we didn't want to go to the Guineas if he wasn't 100%.
"We'll look at other options now and we could go to the Curragh for the Irish 2000 Guineas or Longchamp for the French version.
"We missed three and half weeks with him just at the wrong time. He was back cantering at the end of February and Newmarket will just come too soon for him."
It means that Fahey will now have to delay a potential clash with Henry Cecil's Greenham Stakes winner Frankel.
"Hopefully we will meet the wonderhorse somewhere down the line," Fahey added.
"I was very impressed with him at Newbury and he was very much the one to beat at Newmarket. Hopefully Wootton Bassett can stay undefeated and that would be grand."

I think it's very funny that Wootton Bassett is out the 2000 Guineas because I am on Frankel and the more horses out of the race the better for me lol hee hee hee on you go my beauty!
