Has the Produce Stakes dwindled in interest for any particular reason? Is it just the weight a Produce winner holds going forward?
Going back through the years (on wiki mainly) it seems like it used to be a pretty big event.. |

I attended all four rounds of the Produce as I have done for the last few years. The entry was certainly disappointing both in numbers and quality. One of the entries won the A7 on yesterdays card. Not sure if switching to Saturday afternoon rather than using the regular Tuesday evening opens slot had any impact as open race trainers resources are surely more stretched on a Saturday whereas there is no competition on a Tuesday. Just one from Hutton and nothing from McNair both of whom have had multiple finalists in recent years.
There was however probably the best attendance i've seen post Covid yesterday, although the group of 8 I spoke with who were celebrating a birthday were blissfully unaware it was Swindon's biggest race of the year. A locally trained winner, Eagles Respect (Angie Kibble) was well received with the more knowledgeable section of the crowd and had clearly been well supported in the Ante post market along with the third Malcolm Bosch, again Angie Kibble. Hopefully the event will find a new home next year and both the aforementioned will go onto to further success over six bends |
