"SCARBOROUGH MAGISTRATES COURT ON TUESDAY 18TH APRIL 2PM.

Whatever they do will never be enough…how the hell do you walk out of kennels, shut the door and not go back? Those poor dogs must have suffered so much…starving to death waiting for someone to come back.

When Askern track closed on the 23rd September last year there were over 400 people in attendance. I’m sure there were lots of happy memories and wonderful tales of how it used to be, in the day.

The night however was over shadowed by the absolute horror that a greyhound trainer had walked away from her dogs. She had literally stopped feeding them and left them to die.

This was posted on a greyhound forum…. Local authority stepped in over welfare concerns regarding sheffield trainer rebecca perkins greyhounds, the gbgb were forced to step in and put the dogs elsewhere, most at sheffield knew she was struggling on her own, why was help not offered to rebecca ? Why did the gbgb stewards not spot the signs during regular visits ? Why did sheffield management fail to offer help ?

The vets where they were taken were horrified, some dogs had to be put to sleep, some needed intensive treatment.

The dogs were taken in by York rspca and a prosecution will follow."

Dreadful  , seemed a decent Lady , Was involved in a rescue of a Dog from a Railway line in the Middle of the Night , After the owner put out a request for help on Face book ,No excuses for what she has done , But questions need to be asked why help was not at Hand ,Lockdown ETC has probably led to the Problems in the first place ..

Another sad case associated with our Sport ,Few of my Friends on FB are friends with her

Great shame for the dogs but a shame for her too imo.  I am quite sure she would never have wanted to behave in such a way.  The responsibility is a huge one and I would hope she cracked under the pressure as opposed to wilfully being cruel - but who knows?!.
I remember at my home track a trainer didn;t come in two Monday's running.  The next time he did it the other trainers broke in to his kennel, looked after the dogs as best they could with basics, then reported the same to the RM and the GRA.  As you have said you would have hoped someone would have seen the problem looming.  Sad
Another stain on the PR of greyhound racing, sadly.
