Congratulations to all those that have made this possible. You finally did it.

Give yourselves a well deserved pat on the back…

The criticism on here looks to have worked. The monday morning card has got just the EIGHT sprints. The powers that be have spoilt us
by including four marathons over 500m!..

What's a marathon anyway?  Most greyhound races these days are just for those with a very short attention span.

sparrow 2 ways of looking at this some hounds clearly dont get 4 bends hence sprints i get it you hate them
if said hound did not race well

Winja..........I was brought up in an era when such races were non existent and when crowds were in their thousands and so I fail to understand why these events were introduced. There was just one competition in a year at Southend the Silver Salver and that was it and as a spectacle there is just nothing in a race that is over in a matter of strides and just adds to the demise of the sport. What is happening at the moment with anything from 6 to 12 of these so called races on the same card is quite frankly unbelievable.

I never in a million years expected it to end up like this and you would have thought that an effort would have been made to put on cards that people might actually prefer. I realise now it is a complete waste of time talking about cards with races over varied distances as neither the tracks or their owners have any interest in changing the present endless monotony of 2 and 4 bend races yet you would think owners of graders who needed further than 4 bends might actually be catered for rather than having to run them over trips too short. To think at one time tracks such as Wimbledon had stayers races from S1 to S5 so just a great shame that this has been allowed to happen and to me there is no way back.

Totally agree Sparrow.  On Wedge’s point about some dogs not staying 4 bends, although that may be the case in some cases, I just cannot  accept that the reason that there are SO many sprints is because there are SO many dogs that don’t stay. I think that there are ulterior motives at play here.
On your earlier point about the silver salver and other occasional sprints they were a real novelty and a bit of a treat (I still fondly remember Upton Rocket, Farncombe Black and others).. Variety really was the ‘spice of life’
When a treat becomes the ‘norm’ as it is today it ceases to become a treat and is no longer enjoyable.

It seems to me that the powers that be have decided that greyhound racing should no longer necessarily be about enjoyment.
It has become something much more important than that..

Apologies winja, getting mixed up there.

Would have been helpful if wedge had used the actual words rather than initials. Not too good with text language myself.

sparrow they are 3 words i would find hard to spell out whilst i agree that 2 bend racing is a lottery and not everyones cup of tea because of the selective breeding going on it leads to the need to have such as an owner i tend to go for stayers in this day and age very limited races in ireland or here so i end up with my hounds running over the standard 4 bend trip i have on the odd occassion purchased hounds that dont stay 4 bends and so as they can continue to race i move them on to a track that can accomodate them i have owned hounds for 55 years chasing the elusive dream of owning the derby winner been close and now im running out of time and money its a sport i love and the gambling side of it is long gone

wedge....I understand why you didn't want to spell that out, but for me I can't think why an owner would knowingly invest in a 2 bend dog despite the fact that owning my own greyhound was something I always wanted to do. I envy you for owning dogs over so many years and it must have given you so much enjoyment as well as the inevitable disappointments.  I wish you the best of luck for your future runners as you clearly deserve it.

there's no question that it's the bookmakers who want this - you have to vote with your pocket - don't bet on those races, watch the turnover go down, and maybe they'll change their minds ...... probably all too late for me - but you can hope
