That would be in the 60s when they also altered the track by banking the bends.

I only went once and that was the very last meeting on Friday 25th 1987.
The locals did a lap of honour after the final race, many were visibly moved I seem to recall.

Sad

1 remember in either 1962/1963 riding all the way on my Vespa 160 GS from Bexley to Harringay stadium in the snow to back Jovial Mecca in the Christmas hurdle final, it was 3 lengths clear and looked certain to win when it fell at the final hurdle , then had to ride all the way back home in the snow.

Unlucky Frank.  Sad
Not one of these later bitches bred anything of any consequence.

Huge crowd in that pic when the sport was really alive, and all those trilby hats and flat caps.
Remember around the 70's or early 80's when horse racing was off ITV and Brough Scott would be at Harringay dogs.

slippy, Just seen this thread.

Yes, I was at the last Harringay meeting that Friday night in 1987, as well.

Do you recall how someone set fire to the Tote near the end of the card? It was quickly put out but things looked like they were going to turn nasty for a brief few minutes!

I also recall going there on a Friday night in November 1976 when Ballinderry Moth won the Oaks. I was 16 and as raw as you like, although I thought I was 'the man', and had £6 to win £4 on the Walthamstow bitch out of trap 2, I believe. She smashed out and led all the way.

Great days...

thanks sparrow if you could post this one as well....i was on new community but could find no buttons or anything that helped......

the above is another jumping photo from Harringay and i was going to respond to Frank RA saying that if these were the race hurdles its not surprising his bet fell at the final hurdle......these are massive obstacles to clear at full speed....
