jackboo, I was brought up in Hackney but moved to Yorkshire in 1970. My regular tracks were Clapton and Harringay although I have visited most of the old London tracks and several more besides.

Thank you SGE. Just a pity that all many of us have now are memories, but time moves on I suppose. Clapton had such an incredible atmosphere with large crowds and a very strong betting market and anyone who witnessed it all in the 60s will never forget the place.

Case, I recall Chittering Clapton winning his race at Clapton in the 60s in a low grade race and although the 5/2 fav was unimpressed by him. For me Paddy Keane was the top trainer at Clapton.

A truly magical time .. We all know how easy it is to look back and say how different class it was .. But it really was ..Such a shame todays dog crowd will never see its like again .

I started in the 70s by the end of that Decade the writing was on the wall
So many great tracks lost , each having a special place in peoples hearts ,it is not and never will be the same , there are some of us left that love the Sport ,But the Fan Base has gone ,Sadly never to return . A night at the Dogs was summat to behold , Many towns with no tracks and Many tracks at the Beck and call of Bookmakers with stupid Timings and Schedules , Fodder racing Pumped out for one reason , the bookmaking industry ... How many people attend these meetings ? |

Casemoney ... probably like yourself used to go dogs a good few times a week .. the game was so much more alive and classy then .. Sadly I now find it so terribly boring
