I've got vague memories of going to Tralee dogs after a day at The Rose Of Tralee racing festival. One 5 dog race had 3 dogs odds on and the outsider was 6/4.

I went just the once circa 15 years ago. It was very well attended and the facilities great, but as here it was non-punters out for an enjoyable dining/drinking night with little activity with the few bookies tucked out of the way outside the stand divorced from 99% of those in attendance, a bit like Hove (well up until the last time I saw it a few years ago at least). First race they opened 6/4 everything, literally and kept it there until a minute before the off when they relented to an overround of circa 170%, a pattern to be repeated throughout the meeting. I said to a local I must be missing something, they can't be serious? He said, yes that's the way it is all the time, all you can do is have a few euros on the tote, any serious betting you can forget. If my recollection is right I believe at that time they didn't have contract trainers with dogs in kennels there and it wasn't that difficult for individuals to get a licence to race there own four-legged friends and take them home on the night. At least here trainers have the threat of their livelihoods being lost to dampen down naughtiness which I don't doubt was the major reason for the absolutely ridiculous shows. Seemed at the time from the shows at other Irish tracks that Tralee was not unique. Never looked at Irish racing since, hopefully the Betfair Exchange has made inroads.
