I agree with you irish and the fact that they are bringing over more than forty entrants speaks volumes about how highly they rate the facilities.  They and their dogs clearly get treated very well there or they wouldn't bother.  We just have to hope that all the track associated changes since they have been there are advantageous but the run up hasn't been inspiring. Not greening just now - holding on to them as they all seem well drawn in their semis.  Maybe greedy but have nothing to lose - Jumeirah paid for it all.

You're holding a very strong hand there L.H.Nice one mate Happy
I've yet to have a pynt on the outright winner but am leaning towards Deerjet Sydney and a saver on Thorn Falcon. I've seen all the heats but I just can't get excited about this Derby at all, in fact any Derby really since Wimbledon closed. Too many great memories like Lartigue Note, Hit The Lid and so on still fresh in my mind and todays fare just can't replicate that adrenalin rush that used to be there for me, and no doubt the regulars on here of course, on final night. I have enjoyed watching the tournament progress but it's just not the same.
Report LoyalHoncho June 29, 2021 3:07 PM BST
Thank you.  I agree with most of what you say too.  I once knocked the 'don but realise now I was very wrong ( and apologise to casemoney, whose home track it was - I believe ). The miracles the staff must have worked to get the Derby running there in the first place must have been huge. But old allegiances and prejudices die hard.  Anyone who witnessed White City realises what was lost when it went and the 'don just never did it for me.  And yet we witnessed some great Derbys and Derby winners there over the thirty years they delivered it for us.  The fact it is still going is the main thing now and I sincerely hope it is still going, in any form, when I'm long potted!  I hate knocking it but this one seems to have been dogged by issues.  Hopefully we get through it with no further troubles.
Good luck all.  Wink

Yer slippy blue I can still remember more about the derby finals at Wimbledon like 15 to 20 years ago than the last five years

Like shameless slippy leading up every round and never once looking getting caught

And picking hit the lid before the competition started but was having a bad run before the competition started

First derby final attended was that final, was used to bigger galloping tracks than Wimbledon

Was amazed at how tight the first bend seemed to be

The trap 6 I think got knocked over at the first bend

So would you believe it I changed my mind in the final and backed curryhills gara in the final rather than hit the lid Cry

i have to say I only joined thread ahead of final because old manchester with his portfolio including all 192 runners did my head in!!

I played romeo magico, priceless jet, signet ace and thorn falcon - was guaranteed 6 in the final after saturday, was hoping deerjet was 3-4-5 rather than 2 but considering newinn is in 1 then having deerjet on his outside will hopefully scupper both of them and if so then I'd be hopeful falcon could deal with the rest of the field. hard to understand how ballymac fairone is now fav with thorn falcon at 3x the price considering only 2 races ago, falcon beat him easily, hoping history repeats!! gl all

My thoughts on the Derby Night

Racing was very good strangely had dogs running very well from off the back in a few races

would give the whole evening racing wise  9/10 as opposed to my 5/10 over the whole derby

Downer was Maestro, A dog looked the derby winner a couple of weeks back ,What I find strange

is they did not , or have to, retrial him after the last run ,He was paceless there was summat

seriously amiss , why would you run the dog again without a trial ? What was said after his last run ?

I believe he was once RM at Crayford?  Is that right?  I don't like the guy, simple as that.  I don't like his history, I don't like his ripping up Towcester five years ago on the tv and now as meek as a lamb, taking their dosh.  I praised his commentary work during the event but that last night was just treating us all with contempt.  I think he believes he;s God's gift to the game.  If he was chocolate he'd eat himself.  People talk about the "gravy trainers", well for me he's one.
