Think they done regarding a possible derby in the future ?
By:
i agree totally ruined the place, poor racing nowadays
By:
They ruined Hove when they dug up the grass track 20 years ago.
By:
Did they not firstly go 490. Then go 500 as there was so much trouble 490. Or did i
Imagine it. |
By:
Must been so hard to move the winning line
5 or 10 meters , that mean adjusting the box And camera what hardship that must of been ffs Like hove 515 and smash 475 trip Now it’s smash trip fullstop |
By:
They did go 490 PH quite right ,and agree fats seems strange not to move the line ,Must be a reason
By:
the 490 was a shambles and the 500 is not much better, hove was my main track for years(done really well)the trouble in racing now is not good, especially first 2 bends.not for me anymore.the markets are not very strong either nowadays.

Glad I’m not the only one who cannot see the sense in it. Would the owners have made the decision based on what is better for their profits or would there of had to have been a legitimate reason..? Obviously the derby was muted as potentially going there.. but as already stated here, they could have just moved the line back for that..?
By:
That probably tells all garry. Money in markets. If punters like yourself dont like what they c they will move on. It was a fantatic track back in the day. Grass straights n sanded bends. Imo best test of a dog anywhere. 515.
By:
Handtiming today and the 3 most recent races contain an odds on shot.
By:
agree private, sad state of affairs at hove, went from probably the best graded strength in country to the standard they have now,if i owned a dog i would not be running it over 500m at hove, bookmakers control and ruin the sport at the same time.
By:
the 500 is slightly better than the 490 but they should have left the graded alone @ 515 imo
By:
By:
the inside is massive bias over the 490 and 500m if u can hold your pitch to the bend but the majority of racing is bumping cars until out the second bend, very scrappy stuff and not for me,very sad to see what hove racing is now compared to when it was on on a thursday night on rptv.
By:
smthye leading rankin dont panic the handicaps are coming to start 695 but then who knows the reason the line not moved is obvious if you have ever been also it would alter the sprint and regency distance
By:
Losing ten meters on the sprint
Or having it’s standard trip keeping it run to the corner would been a no brainier In fact moving the regency boxs back another ten stops it being smash six bend trip too |
By:
fattie move the line and you lose 15 off the sprint and staying distances the run to first over the same remains
also since when has the regency been a smash trip |
By:
Nice to see a decent debate about a topic. I would add that seeing as over 80% of the racing that takes place at the track is over the standard 4 bends.. it would have probably been wise to concentrate on that above the sprint and 6 bend trips...
By:
exactly
and if they are that bothered they can use what is currently the 740 boxes to start from, make it a 725 with a decent run up...proper trip |
By:
Horrible run to corner wedge
Like sitters Like Notts Monmore 630 Sheffield 660 Perry Barr run to corner other night was rather refreshing |
By:
short run to the bend suits the paymasters
By:
thats the thing nowadays the dont want a long run to the bend as its easier to read whats going to happen, they want scrappy racing all over, they would have kept the 490 at hove only everyone was complaining, the longer run to the bend the better spectacle the race is as you see the true pace of the dog but as we know the books dont want that, they want a smash up out the boxes then anything can win.

I've spoken before about my grader bitch who runs there. She was winning A7s over 515 but is now down to A11 over 500. Although she won over that trip recently, that was mainly down to trouble in behind but she did get around the first bend unmolested for the first time in ages. She stays for ever so we really want the 695 handicaps to start, or at least be put in an S5.If she doesn't get a six bend run soon, I'm going to retire her.
I think the move to 490 was introduced by the previous RM because he thought the 515 took too much out of the dogs, with the long run to the pick up and they needed the dogs to be able to run every week. The current RM introduced the 500 because so many dogs were getting knocked over at the first. I agree with moving the line. |

By:
Catford, there must be a considerable amount of stayers up and down the country that are no longer catered for. I don't follow Hove but is it the case that only in the past 12 months or so that the 695m stayers races have more or less stopped?
By:
Sparrow, in the last week we have had 61 graded races; 2 over 6 bends (S4, S5), 6 sprints and 53 500m. There was also a six bend maiden Open.
If we had handicaps we could have more six bend races I reckon; bigger pool to draw on for grading. |
By:
Catford, do you think that Southern fans will take to handicaps as in the past that doesn't seem to be the case? Nevertheless at least stayers will get some sort of a fair chance of winning something and a welcome break to the monotony of endless 4 bend races. It is still incredible to me that we have more 2 bend races than 6 these days but then I was probably spoilt by never having to see those 2 bend affairs when I first went racing.
By:
I don't know Sparrow but you're right it will at least give staying types a chance to shine. Worth remembering the the RM was at Shawfield, where handicaps are the norm. Not a fan of sprints either, but the theory is that they can run more often.
