That Romford has turned into a glorified flap. Was once the envy of the greyhound world. Been mentioned on other threads that the racing is subject to much skullduggery. A shame.. but certain trainers don’t help it’s reputation.

no such thing as a glorified flap
all greyhound racing in graded racing is subject to management and trainer manipulation |

romford should have a wealth warning think trainers at a lot of tracks know the game is going knowhere and are getting what they can out of it if i was a trainer i would do the same

Perhaps it’s just a sad reflection on how powerful the bookmakers have become. Going changes ever 3rd race for no reason, dogs as inconsistent as they have ever been and market moves beyond a joke. The sport could be such a good product still... but needs a strong change of direction imo

Does anyone actually enjoy watching 380m/400m races with barely any home straight.
Even the 6 bend stuff round there its hard for dogs to pass. Much prefer Hove out of the JoeKoral gaffs. |

It really feels like the game is so controlled by the bookmakers now that it could be on last legs. The champ trainer seems very disillusioned with the sport. If you find a bet and manage to get on, then somehow a mysterious non runner comes to light! Going being changed all over the place ( Hove the other night) dogs form wildly inconsistent. Sad times at mo...

Could bring back a great sporting spectacle if following the Australian system.. TAB only.. huge levels of prize money, well kept running surfaces and a fair chance of finding a winner if putting the work in. Too many races here being decided by the kennels beforehand...

You are spot on....the Australian model now needs to come here at competitive commission rates. Far too much bookmaker control now....tractor changing the going...non runners popping up from knowhere, can’t get more than a score on, betting to 128%....what has happened in the last few years. Also if they care about welfare as they say( another smokescreen just like they care about problem gamblers) then look at 8 dog racing on Australia and see how the dogs go round the bend, relatively with no trouble. Rip up the Romford, Crayford and other wall of death tracks and start again it can be done. If we continue with the above practices it won’t wash anymore and the game will be gone in less than five years.....somebody please do something to reverse this bookmaker controlled slumber?
