Derby postponed due to threat from coronavirus
BY PAUL BROWN5:38PM 16 MAR 2020
THE news greyhound racing was hoping not to hear was announced yesterday when Arena Racing Company (Arc) and Nottingham confirmed the postponement of this year's Star Sports, Arc & LPS Derby.

Following on the heels of an announcement that all racing at Arc venues, both horse and greyhound, will take place behind closed doors from Tuesday, March 17 until the end of the month, the decision has been taken to postpone the Classic until later in the year.

The competition had been due to start on Friday, April 10, and no decision has been taken as to a suitable alternative date as to when the competition may be held.

Arc greyhound operations director Rachel Corden said: "We have taken the decision to postpone the 2020 Greyhound Derby in line with the closure of all of our sites to the public for a period of time.

"At this time our main priority is to maintain the health and safety of our employees and those that care for the greyhounds attending our sites to race behind closed doors."

"Our sponsors are fully supportive of the decision and we would like to thank all of our colleagues in the greyhound racing industry, along with our sponsors Star Sports and LPS for their ongoing support."

Most of the runners are in there because its an open race  not because the trainer thinks they are Derby dogs.

gonna be a strange derby this year when and if it does happen. u have 2 think open race dogs are not going to be running. brings in dogs in 2 equation such as newinn taylor. brings in 2 equation more pups that will be allowed more time 2 come forward as well. going 2 be a strange one

each will have their own rules but pat from 365 said last night the cash out option is available or you can call and cancel......however while it is postponed and not cancelled all bets remain live so if you want out you need to talk to your bookmaker..........
