have to agree if it didnt work last time why will it work this time ? Hope I am wrong and wish them all the best ,Location a big problem imo
By:
Lord Hesketh is not a hard act to follow and imo Boothby most likely has a plan regarding his SIS fixtures at Henlow where houses will be built, the only question is when.

Gary Wiltshire and Bunny confirmed two bookmakers so far....a strong ring would be helpful

Have to Believe TOW will get RPTV slots ??? Otherwise how can they survive ??
By:
I mean they will get a Slot
By:
I read statement the other day stating btwn henlow an towcester they gona av around 1500 dogs. How do they all get a run? Henlow i know had a vey busy schedule before lockdown. Towcester i believe want to av 1 open race night. He will need to negociate the mother of all deals. Remember thats not bin negociated yet. With that amount of kennel strength imo he will need to av a similar schedule to henlow. Also lookin to av towcester running graded up to A5. Didnt they av same prob wen the good lord had it. People looking at golden goose left to go there an couldnt get runs. Many left claiming it was elitest. Might be a case of we bin here b4. I hope not.

good point private
but unfortunately due to virus goalposts will be moved |
By:
They just never learn in this game.
How much racing do they think this sport can support? The only way to survive is with less dogs and less races and not with all this saturation of 14 race cards day in and day out at virtually every track. The average punter just isn't interested in all these 2 and 4 bend graded races. |
By:
Sparrow.. the trouble is the bookmakers control the sport. And the Billy Bunters they accept bets from couldn’t care if its the derby final or an A10 at Henlow on a Friday morning before the sun has even come up! They will still play there same number f/casts, tricasts etc with the same thought process. That’s who the bookmakers will lay to all day long.. sadly the true dog punters are shafted in all ways. 1) terrible racing put in a majority of the week. 2) when decent racing is in, they cannot get a bet on! Sad times im afraid
By:
You are of course right switch in saying that the main problem is the bookmakers control and they themselves will surely be looking for cutbacks in their budgets at the end of this current crisis. Either way the sport has to move away from the present situation to try and survive.
By:
Towcester would not be returning without the bookmakers money. Its the only way any track can survive.
Not enough money comes through the turnstiles to make it pay. If anyone knows how to change it they should start explaining. |
By:
Well clacton we have been here before whereby I argue for less meetings and less racing and you argue for no change. We will see how this develops and hope that somehow or other the sport survives.
By:
Sparrow is right.
The tail is now well and truly wagging the dog. Hopefully towcester can somehow put some meaningful prize money up. I think id like to see "run money" done away with and incentives for 2nd and 3rd placers. Clacton do you think this can work: Smaller pool of A1-A5 dogs... Punters get to know the dogs better/ compilers get the odds more accurate with the earlies as they have less work to do and dogs to note. Punters more engaged so pump in more liquidity...which can only be good if you are making an accurate book in the first place to feckin 130% Less races surely mean more interest per race so the bookmakers can get a more even spread in the book too? |
By:
Very wishful thinking and im presuming this place would just say no thank you but what about a semi Australian taxation style model?
Towcester say ok we want 0.5% commission of all winnings per race? BF passes it on the punter and we all start to pay 2.5% instead of 2% commission. 100K liquidity provides £500 a race to Towcester. Dreaming probably. |
By:
Im not arguing for no change. Im just saying what the situation is.
Tracks get good money from bookmakers so they are not giving that up thats for sure. I dont know the answer but if you dont take the bookmakers money, where does it come from. You tell me because I dont know. |
By:
Clacton, I haven't said that we should not take the bookmakers money but that we need to convince them that the present way needs to be changed.
8 race cards and less meetings to be achieved within the next few years and of course more variety rather than just 2 and 4 bend racing. |
By:
And when we talk about bookmakers money I mean all bookmakers including this one.
By:
Possibly their casinos, thats via bricks and mortar and online stuff, and their shop front is just a disguise to be a casino.
I really wouldn't know either. Something I dont understand... If you are a true mug punter and you would pick a selection purely off colours numbers and names....I dont get why the bookmakers have not completely pulled the plug on anything real greyhound wise full stop. These people would still surely bet on the virtual stuff? A tough one. |
By:
I think one key target should be to get the sport showcased on Sky sports again or a terrestrial channel. An evening on itv 4 or something can’t be that difficult to at least push for. Could be a league where trainers have say 6 dogs. All run at the 6 tracks. Public get to know the dogs as seeing them weekly.. or a cup style competition of match bets etc. Any new ideas that will capture the public’s imagination..
By:
Not saying this is the best idea at all.. just feel they have to freshen things up to survive. It’s become a bit stale I feel. Those at the top just don’t seem to have any appetite for change at all. It needs someone like Hearn to come in and shake it up. Because there is a great product with this wonderful canine athletes. Running to a time within .2 of a second most weeks. Any other views..?

Boothby has a deal with sky sports racing I believe
