In the 90's does anyone remember the tall slim guy (think he may have had Ginger hair) who was mute? He was always at catford and Wimbledon too I think so obviously Dog mad but literally couldn't speak. Would have been in his late 30's I'd guess then.
I was in Vegas when Catford shut, a mate was meeting us out there, said he had some bad news and I better sit down, colour drained from my face when he told me, second home.

I hardly missed a meeting at Catford for 25 years until it closed down in 2003 and I thought I must have known all the faces in that time but I don't recall that chap Lou.

Lou I used to be mainly in the grandstand opposite John Humphrey's pitch but I did go to the 'cheapside' as well as a few mates preferred it over there. I'm trying to remember all the layers from back in the day on that side. Wally Harrison, Sid Hooper, Tony Kemp, Steve Gibbs, Kim Johnson, old man Sollaway (he did Humphreys tissue prices on occasions), betting without the jolly was Jim Robinson and there was another one on the end whose name escapes me. Grandstand was Humphreys, Crawley, David Richardson ( I still see him on course at the Southern courses like Plumpton) Ray Dean was on the end and I've forgotten one or two. Very happy times for me going to Catford, had a few dogs with Paddy Millagan, Arthur Boyce and Ray Peacock over the years.

Michael, absolutely certain we would have stood next to each other on the terraces at some stage over the years, like Deptford has already said, it was my second home as well and I was completely distraught when they closed the doors.

Lou Also a regular on the cheap side with a collection other regulars standing opposite Brian's pitch (Wally H) in the 80s and 90s down Catford, knew a number of people but cant say i remember the guy you are talking about Harry Holmes was another bookmaker on the cheap side during that time if my memory serves.

used to travel down to Catford together with my dad, he left Hither Green around 1998 and went down to Deal to run a pub with a bird he met in the station hotel, she ran the florist nearby. They split up sometime back and she married one of her customers then eventually left the pub, He was a nice guy so a shame wouldnt have deserved that
Lost touch with him and havnt seen him for about 10 years but only recently someone else mentioned him and might try and contact him, shouldnt b too hard i was in the same class as his sister at school. if you knew Steve well, probably know me and def my dad

I think I've just twigged who it is, tall, slim bloke with gingerish hair, possibly called Simon. He owned a mediocre hurdler, H2/H3 grade caled 'Drum Call'. I only ever saw him bet with John Humphreys and he was quite an argumentative person who used to get on J.H.'s nerves from what I can recall! I don't think he had any other dogs at Catford. Not a big punter, maybe £50 - £100 maximum.

Without a doubt this guy couldn't speak, was mute.
He was probably about Mid 30's - 40 but this was 25 years ago I suppose.
Saw him at Wimbledon and Crayford too.

I knew him as deaf and Dumb Pat about 30ish ginger ,regular Catford and Crayford . Used to pull your arm then tap ferociously at programme trying to tell you what dog he fancied. Definitely used to drive JH mad . Been told he moved back to Ieland

I wonder if JH shouted at him "You got nothing". What a track that was. From when I was about 15 or 16 I was there every meeting and then I owned my first dog there with Efdal trained by Simpson, she won over all three distances and an open at Sittingbourne.
