Peter simpson, ricky, slim, trevino, clark becket. Them were the days. Pulled more strokes there than the papworth heart hospital. Oh to be young again.

I laugh when the pundits say how much they hate sprints and handicaps. Back then it was mostly sprint handicaps, and even dashes 80 yards or so.Betting trials were the best as you could bring any dog to run (and most pro trainers did) to compete blind. Remember when a trainer entered six dogs and cleaned up as his other five were "off" and his trier won a distance.

And I laugh when people talk about flapping. The ordinary punter never stood a chance with such as Scurlogue Champ turning up as Fred and all the other strokes going on. Greyhound Racing was given a bad name by these antics and had it's credibility seriously undermined. My father trained flappers at Temple Mills in the 1930s so I know exactly what went on.

I live in South East London, my nearest track is Crayford but that's an awkward journey and that aside it's not a track I have any great fondness for personally. I've gone from over 200 meetings a year to 3 trips to Hove when I can be bothered.

Is that Ricky Martin you're talking about Private or a different Ricky? Used to get on well with him and his daughter years ago on the racecourses. She was a bonny lass.

Yes John punted at Shawfield pretty heavy late 80's, Wille was always with him, tall skinny guy with moustache, big Rangers supporter, punted for Joe Price too.
The last time I seen Trevino he was standing at Dundee dogs, Dens Park (1996 I think), he had a shop in Tollcross across from park, but never seen him in it. Don't know if it's still there.
