As well as rails, mid, wide and very wide, you also get rails-mid, mid-rails and mid-wide (but not wide-mid?). Do these describe an intermediate position between two lines(r,m,w,vw), or do they indicate that a dog moved from one line to another during the race? Thanks.

The first scenario - rls to mid is between the rails and the middle of the track
