Well backed and wins pulling a cart. Just crazy. You used to have to run three trials to get on a card and at least one trial/run in the last 30 days to compete over different distance (apart from open entries, obviously).
You dare not have a bet in such races unless you're either mad or "in the know". And the amount of "awk nr ln" nowadays is bordering on the epidemic. |

And the amount of "awk nr ln" nowadays is bordering on the epidemic. totally agree,i have never seen so many dodgers in my life

Yes I agree, and would have to say that the hounds look tired, I wonder why??????

Yes indeed, John. This crazy schedule of round-the-clock racing is responsible for producing dogs that are totally jaded and fed up with the endless merry-go-round. Morning meetings going off at breakfast time, bags meetings (or whatever they are called now) with races every few minutes; sometimes two races going off together at the SAME TIME.
And just what is the point of all this, I ask you? The dogs are tired, The trainers are tired, The racing offices are tired, The punters, (by and large), do not exist anymore and the ones that do, struggle to get a decent bet on. The grades have been "extended" with sometimes two or three "new levels" added below the old basement level. Every track seems to have purchased handicap traps but they have little idea just how to grade a proper handicap. I could go on but you get the drift. I have loved the dogs for over 40 years but it is hard to stomach this regime that seems to be on permanent fast-forward. Sooner or later, something's going to give. Total overkill ... And if that is not sufficient for the degenerates, you can watch and bet on the Aussie & NZ dogs every night too! Be lucky. |

Belle Vue let dogs run now over the 590m without a trial. Don't know the exact ruling but as long as they've ran a couple of times over the 470, then they're fine to run the 590m

Interesting point about dogs being tired. I've noticed dogs running below par on the Wednesday meeting after running well on the Sunday. Something I wondered about whether the 2nd run in 4 days was too much.

Yeah DD, they are bored. Run Sunday, eat and sleep Monday, eat and sleep Tuesday, dragged off to race again Wednesday.
Poor buggers are treated worse than lags in the cells. No time for a walk in the fresh air, just a half hour in the runs twice a day (maximum). You and I would go batshit insane so I very much think that is the case with a lot of the dogs too. On a separate note, I do think that if the "hare" was more realistic then there would be less disqualifications (or awk nr ln!). It would, or should, not be that difficult to have a lure that looks rather more interesting to Mr Canine. Even the dual hare system trialled in USA might be worth a go (synchronous inside and outside hares). The way it's going there will be grades of A14 before long! |

.. Remember my mate who used to own dogs in 80s/90s at the now defunct Portsmouth telling the RM not to give
his dogs more than 5 runs a month, cant see that happening now. ![]() |

Hehe, no. He probably got fed up with washing the mud off of their feet in those days (grass straights, sand bends). Spent many evenings battling it out with Ross Jackson (RIP) ...
