it would appear the main purpose of the acquisition is to merge the retail sports betting arm of Ladbrokes/Coral into GVC to strengthen their sports betting exposure that was maybe not achieved with Sportingbet…..their other components are virtually all on-line products such as poker, bingo, casinos and I am sure there is also some depth in that aspect but it looks like they want the shops even with the FOBT reductions that are coming and if they have shops they will need dog racing and owning their own tracks guarantees that coverage. The GVC principal product is gaming but the CEO is saying the acquisition allows GVC to be one of the worlds largest sports betting companies, he is also using language like established brands and diversity so although they are going to generate savings in the company by various reductions in overheads it would not make business sense to sell off the profitable and established tracks although I am not sure where that leaves Romford with their as yet undisclosed refurbishment needs….it is probably the reason Romford have remained silent……I would remain bullish about them retaining the tracks and maybe we will see a new sponsor appearing in other areas of dog racing……
