for a true 4 bend trip its got to be the hardest in the country to come from off the pace ,the majority of races the first 2 are in those positions of the second bend,i have been punting greyhounds for 30 years and the racing is so different to anything else i have seen,i commend them for all the efforts but the track is a let down for great greyhound raving which is a shame, and it suits fast starting railers more than any other track .

Track needs to be totally redesigned

For a c rap track it's produced a Derby with four Group 1 dogs ( my own classification ) making the final, namely Hiya Butt, Droopys Acrobat, Clares Rocket and Tyrur Shay and another arguable Group 1 in Murrys Act. Seems fair enough to me. A whole lot of very good dogs haven't made it, through bad luck, poor starting, drawing a really tough heat etc; - nothing new there. The real jewel of it all has been the dedicated Towcester tv coverage - both before and after the competition got under way. Fantastic visual resource, which no other track ANYWHERE comes close to, came close to or ever thought about providing. And, it has kept the Derby alive, kicking and flourishing. Not too many negs. for me.
I'm in the stocks, ready and waiting! lol. |

I accept that Towcester has provided some good facilities especially it's online coverage but the racing leaves much to be desired.
As has been said by myself and others countless times the track itself is just not good enough. Also very little has been said so far about the appalling decision to make the Dorando Marathon and another couple of races an 8 dog affair, surely no fan of the sport can agree with that. Having said all that I do wish the track every success in the future and that it takes on board the criticism from true fans of the sport and makes some changes. It really does not help to pretend that all is well and it's just a few dinosaurs who are complaining. |

A couple of Einstein quotes for all the Towcester reactionaries:
"stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" "anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new" |

Went for third round and going back for final (now missus cared for), so must be quite good. Worth the 270 miles round trip, imo. But just for the Derby and supporting dogs. Don't think you'd really catch me going any other time

8 dog racing is not the way forward in greyhound racing the track was designed for 8 dog racing that's one of the problems and why do people who like the track don't see that there is a rail bias over 500m i have never seen so many dogs that i thought would not get 500m and 480m stay when they get on the hare

Apparently there are 28 entries for the Dorando which is very surprising considering it's usually a problem to find 6 sometimes. Where have all these marathon runners suddenly appeared from?
|
|
By:
sparrow,i believe many of the 20 entries that didnt get in have far eastern connections who are gagging for 8 dog racing

Is it not something like £5k to winner
Can't believe we are having 8 dog racing on the derby final car Just shows how low the game has fallen too |
|
By:
these 8 dog races are the first step to trying to make it the norm ,bookies would love every race to have 8 dogs in it and the way things are going that will be the only way they will lay a bet,
|
|
By:
*Correction 27 entries for the Dorando.
|
|
By:
The tracks wide enough to run all 27!
|
|
By:
no comment regarding 8 dog races but the card looks superb so connections must love it as an venue mine was a watching brief but will go for it next year if a few tweaks happen

Wedge it's got nothing to do with connections luving it
Afraid it the decent prize money and limited options for 8 bend dogs The open race calendar is quiet at the moment with derby on so again it's limited options If I owned a top class dog would I run it at Towcester Not for any normal opens or comps Would run it in the derby if it was an early paced railer But if owned a decent 6 or 8 bend dog of course anyone is going to run it in a 8 dog race with decent one off prize money |

Thanks and hopefully they are publicising the free transport from the rail stations. Unfortunately it's too far for me to travel there and back in a day.
