as a commentator myself I must say the Newcastle guy is top draw!!! love how he can say bout gambles market moves etc makes it so exciting and appealling

what I like about mark's comms are (a) they have passion and he sounds like he loves the games and follows the dogs and enjoys calling them and (b) he has balls to call a photo 1 way or the other depending on his opinion and if he's wrong he's wrong

All top commentators in every sport, ever, know how to build up tone from quietish at the start to loud at the finish.
I agree he knows his form better than most but he is the only commentator I mute.
The Romford commentator is on a different plane to Mark. Errol has been good for years, and does well on the big occasions and Darryl Williams also knows how to change his tone depending whether the race is a graded event or the Select Stakes final.
