a dangerous decision in these times of animal welfare etc etc, someone could end up looking very foolish if this story escapes the small parish of dog racing

That's what happen when you let utter cants like the high street bookmakers own tracks.
They're doing everything in their power to finish the sport and handing the antis the ammunition they need to fulfill their agenda.

JIMMY WRIGHT has been left “totally shocked” after Newcastle informed him he will have no more graded runners at the track with immediate effect following his decision to withdraw six greyhounds from Thursday evening's Bags card there. Wright, who finished fourth in the national Trainer of the Year standings in 2016, when he was also the leading Newcastle trainer with 386 winners from 2,055 runners, acted after seeing his open-race stayer Shellam Maeby break a hock in the first of the evening's pre-meeting trials. “I was watching from the stand and, unbeknown to me, my kennelhand had said to the trackstaff that he wasn't happy with the surface beforehand,” said Wright. “I went and checked the track myself afterwards and there was movement in it. It was very soft and not consistent so I pulled all my other trials off." William Hill, which owns Newcastle, issued a statement through group communication director Ciaran O'Brien: “William Hill takes greyhound welfare extremely seriously and racing at Newcastle last night [Thursday] took place under conditions which were normal for trials and racing. “The attending vet, racing officials and trainers all agreed the track conditions were perfectly safe. Unfortunately one trainer took a different view and decided to withdraw his greyhounds from racing following the injury to one of his dogs in a trial before racing. “This injury was unrelated to the conditions and as a result of this unauthorised withdrawal we have today agreed to part company with Jimmy Wright. We are happy for Jimmy to continue to run his greyhounds at Newcastle in open races and we wish him well for the future.”

Can say I surprised at all bookies have greyhound racing by the goolies
Though jimmy has one of the biggest kennel strengths and Newcastle short of dogs
Might as well sell Brough park and sunderland for houses and concentrate on cartoon racing
As dogs don't go lame in cartoons

Can't see them being allowed to discuss the issue on RPGTV - not when they've got to give out their eagerly awaited Naps and NBs that they don't back, and their lays that they don't actually lay. And no e-mails will be read out unless they say "Great show as always chaps, I fancy trap 6 in tonight's trap challenge"

Jim Reynolds now Jimmy Wright - these vile companies make Southern Rail look like a paragon of virtue. It's time for everyone to write to their MP urging that these fixed-odds machines be banned. That would wipe out so much of their revenue they would no longer be able to treat greyhound racing with utter contempt. If there was even the slimmest chance that the track was unsafe then Jimmy did the right thing. I find it hard to believe that a vet would make a comment about the track unless it was utterly dire - sounds like made up baloney to me.

so true, how can you be sacked for looking after the welfare of your dogs ,its hills that are not concerned for the dogs welfare ,they just want 6 runners a race so its harder to predict

I believe Carly said the vet is no better qualified to assess ground than Carly herself is.
When you think about it she is right.
Vets are trained to administer care to animals, not to assess the suitability of a track.
Does the doctor conduct pitch inspections at football matches ?

A few years ago when i was a kennel hand i was walking around a frozen ngrc track with the trainer during an inspection .There was no possibility of racing going ahead. The vet was inspecting the track and he whispered to my trainer "what do you think" .Trainer replies "unraceable".The vet ambles away a few paces, turns to the RM and calls out "its unraceable".Meeting abandoned.

So the only local tracks that you can train greyhounds and attempt I make some type of living is Newcastle and Sunderland
Both owned by hills so no chance of getting in at Sunderland
He got sick of open racing about 3 or 4 years ago and stopped going to placed like sheff and notts stating a1 prize money at Newcastle was nearly as good
Ok he got a better racing strength now than then
But I gues he will get sick if all the travelling etc
Poor jimmys knackered nowI think his kennels are north of NewcastleSo the only local tracks that you can train greyhounds and attempt I make some type of living is Newcastle and SunderlandBoth owned by hills so no chance of getting in at SunderlandHe
